Not overly surprised in Seattle. Still pretty unpleasant though. What I don’t get is all the ‘Elon next’ stuff that I’ve seen. He might have some unsavoury views but has also been involved in a lot of good in terms of innovation/development of things that benefit the world. Surely those people wishing death on someone could find more suitable candidates than people who say stuff they don’t like .

I honestly believe many of these weirdos would pick someone to die because of what they say or think than a Putin etc. That’s the world we live in

We've been gaslit for years that left = good and right = bad. At least we're over that now and we can stop pretending.

From a UK perspective, I don't think that's the case at all.

Well those at the extreme end of both sides are fucking nuts.

But in the US at least it's pretty clear cut:

I'm sad that there's people who think this will make anything better or that it's something to be celebrated. Nothing good will come from things like this if the response is to hope it's repeated, or to use it as justification for entrenching your position.

Finding out online there's quite a significant number of people in this country that would celebrate if anyone with even fairly moderate conservative views was murdered is quite an eye opener. You'd actually think JK Rowling was some sort of fascist dictator.

I think places like X distort it. IMO, the overwhelming majority are decent people opposed to it.

I wasn't particularly on about the UK government.
I was more in line of the thinking that left = good and right= bad following on from Toms post.

So apologies if i miss interpreted it

I'd like to think people revelling in a globally broadcast murder are just edgy types rather than actually hoping to see more of it but you can never tell with some people.

It distorts it sure but i have a worrying number of people even on my fairly small friends list on FB that would certainly be, "she shouldn't have be killed... BUT" types. Mainly Corbynite left wingers from my days in the TV industry.

There you are using right wing - left wing terminology like there is some sort of simple dichotomy. I find many of the themes and policies as enacted by politicians of all shades abhorrent or useless. I am completely disaffected of the whole process and I'm just trying to get on with life with minimal interference but it gets harder even to do that.

Like I just did by pointing out it's a false dichotomy and what matters is issues and how they are handled.

I'd suggest it depends on how far to either side of the political spectrum they are on rather than which side

To be fair most of the UK far left are clueless but harmless cunts like the SWP, while there are some people who are an issue there are far less than on the far right.

Not aimed particularly at you Tom, just the latest of many similar posts. I think some of you need to have a look at your friends tbh unless you're all actively going out looking for this stuff as some sort of gotcha. I would most likely be considered a leftie by people on here and I have friends far more to the left than I am but I don't see any of this shit.

If people are seeing this from their friends in places like FB and insta probably time to have a clear out of your friends list. Sure I get some fucking weird & horrific stuff when I go on the for you feed on twitter but nothing from people I actually follow or know and I know some people who have some pretty out there views politically, on both sides of the spectrum.

I do think there are different mindsets.

Every socialist I know are truly lovely people, because they care and they care for society in general. So many of them help out in the community etc.

They just seem to be kind people

Now, my missus and her daughter are both lovely, but they have lived in a capitalist world and things are so very different, to my upbringing, from a working class family, tying to make ends meet.

Mentioning this now, because the daughter is looking for a boyfriend at the moment (she's 22 and works in the city for a PWH type company). My missus is an accountant

Anyway, the daughter, Ruby, said she met someone the other day and my missus' eyes lit up. Then she said he was an actor and my missus just groaned and Ruby started talking about contributing to a house and household in the future etc and looking for someone with money behind them.

I just couldn't get my head around it at all. I get it, but when we were growing up (that's myself, my two brother and all my mates), only ever talked about meeting a nice girl. You just fell in love with, who you fell in love with

It made no difference to me or them what the girlfriend did, it was only ever interested in the person inside and their personality and whether they were kind and caring etc.

Anyway, the point I wanted to make is, even though what the two of them said, shocked me, they are still very nice people.

And there will always be extremists whatever your leaning is

Lean too far one way or another and that's what can happen.

My attitude has always been to treat everyone as an individual and each and every person on their own individual merits

You don't really have to go looking for pretty awful rhetoric from left leaning individuals whether it's in the US or home soil.

I've also seen multiple people within social media, in my friends list as well, celebrate the death of Charlie Kirk or at the very least push the narrative that he brought it on himself.

I think what has gone largely unchecked is the rhetoric that the left use towards even those which aren't even far right, but are simply right of centre, and how a growing section of that community pushes to dehumanise those within an ulterior opinion.

That's not to say the right don't do exactly the same, but the left have largely gone unchecked with the rhetoric they push and the labels they freely place on people, and to be honest the counter name calling from the right hardly yields the same impact or reputational consequence.

You only have to look at the language and pretty alarming rhetoric pushed by left-leaning media in the US - and that of politicians (refer to Tim Waltz's comments about Trump recently) - which seemingly aren't at all criticised or are met with outrage, when really they should be held to account for the words they use, just the same as those on the right.

But by stooping to the far right's level they're not really any better than those that they claim are so evil, intolerant and hateful.
