He's going down the route of punditry isn't he? I suspect he's just building his knowledge base.

Probably doing it to remind Clubs who he is; we’ll have got the ‘Charlie Adam has followed you’ notification, the club would have thought ‘that’s nice but no thanks’, we move on.

I know we want more experience, but let’s not sign a few of dad’s army.

Seems a good singing on paper but not reality.

He has a great range of passing and can fill the massive gap we have in the set piece department, but I’d worry about his levels of fitness and the short termism of his signing too.

Plus, I believe Westbrooke has the same attributes, and while he isn’t at the same level yet, I’d prefer to see him given a chance to develop those skills.

Saying that, if the salary was low enough then it’s potentially worth a punt for the experience within the squad and to ease the pressure on Kelly as the only experienced centre mid we have.

Regarding Westbrooke, on the other hand a season with an old head who can step in and give him a rest might be better for him developmentally. I’m sure Maddison learned a trick or two from Joe Cole, even if Cole didn’t make that much impact on the pitch.

I think hed be a great signing. He was class at Blackpool and good on set pieces. Never had any pace anyway so that wouldnt be an issue. Can pop the ball around too.

He follows Fleetwood Town, Edinburgh City, Inter Miami, and Salford City too! Suppose he’s going there as well.

Sorry but I reckon you’d need your head checking if you’d have him here!

Yes I agree with an old head helping his development, but I’d hope Kelly can fill that role, even if he isn’t anywhere near as experienced as Adam.

Reality check time guys ....

Adams would be a class act in League One. I’m not a fan of his personally but let’s no pretend he would be a bad signing !

Correct. I’m sure he never used to be like that? I blame Arsene Wenger.

He barely played last season and hasn't featured regularly for the last 3 seasons. According to Stoke fans he's been seriously vulnerable to getting overweight at times, unfit and cost them points rather than providing a meaningful contribution on the pitch. If he's been struggling with his weight and fitness over the last couple of seasons, finding an acceptable level of fitness and controlling his weight won't be any easier at 33 years old. You only have to look on Stoke's forum to confirm this. We're all entitled to our opinions but I'm confused to what you're basing yours on? As there's zero evidence to suggest that he could be a success even if he dropped down a league. He's not worth the risk IMO as you can only spend a pound once and he'd be on a serious wage package even with a cut from his contract at Stoke.

Think it’s naivety. Just because he made a bit of a name for himself for a very, very short period. I don’t follow all this “wise head in the changing room” bullshit. We already have that without signing a crap unfit player who’ll add nothing to our play, waste of wages.

Joe Cole had class, and you could see his quality, but I'm not sure he brought very much to the team.
L1 players (mostly) aren't on the same wave length as Prem players

I assumed he was retired/retiring with his increased punditry/radio appearances.

Saying that didn’t stop Kilbane coming along for the ride

Exactly, it is naivety. @ceetee made an interesting point. Players such as Adam who come down from the Premier League to play at League One or two level often struggle to cope with the drop in standards. Which is another reason why it would be a mistake to sign him. For instance, they will make a pass and to the average fan it will look completely wayward, but in the mind of a player such as Adam, they would've expected their teammate to be there as in their Premier League days a player probably would've met the pass. But, because his teammates don't have a similar footballing brain (or talent), they'll be on a completely different wavelength and won't make the runs that the likes of Adam would expect them to. So, rather than stand out for the right reasons as many fans would anticipate, top level players dropping down to League One or below more often than not find it difficult to adapt and subsequently struggle.

Whilst I understand the value of having that significant presence in the dressing room, we need players to play and perform on a consistent basis, not be a father figure or mentor as to put it plainly we don't have the budget for such a luxury. With Kelly and McFadzean in the side we're already covered in the leader department anyway so realistically it's unlikely Robins would bring Adam in on that basis.

Not for me. Half decent playmaker a few years ago with his passing but no mobility at all and IMO a massive discipline problem - tends to get very annoyed against players that are getting the better of him and lash out with awful challenges in which he seems to actual try to injure his opponent. Just for that alone I want nothing to do with him and would prefer to see us keep Bayliss and/or bring on the likes of Westbrooke/Ngandu etc in that role.
