I imagine they’ve got the grow lights for it. One way to cover the costs of a Championship club.

I've been feeling really positive since Wednesday night which is not my natural state of mind, It doesn't sit right with me so I've been trying to reassure myself that everything is going to be OK by looking to see how long it took Boro to close the gap, the last time we had a 5 point margin and what it did to the gap to 3rd place.

We are currently 5 points clear of Boro in 2nd and 9 points clear of 3rd.

On the 15th December we had 47 points and were 5 points clear of Boro in 2nd (42) and 8 points clear of 3rd (35) having played 21 games,

It took Boro another 10 games to close that gap and overtake us by which point (after 31 games) the gap to 3rd was still 7 points.

I know anything can happen in this league but if we are still in a similar (or even, better) position with 10 games to go, I think I will start to worry a little less.

I have been watching as team below us gradully dropout of the running for top two .The next I believe will be Hull.Next 4 games for them are Portsmouth,Ipswich and Wrexham away and Millwall at home.If they only get 6 points out of them games and we only got 4 from our next 3 (2 at home). They would still be still be 9 behind with only 9 left. That only leaves Millwall and Ipswich then there fixtures playing one another and Middlesboro draws would be nice, things looking up.
Enjoy the ride.

Am I the only one that doesn't remotely regard Millwall and Hull as a threat? At the end of the day if either catch us it will mean we've royally shit the bed and Middlesbrough and Ipswich will be miles clear of us in any case.

Both are doing remarkably well and are the type to be ignored at your peril who could trouble second spot

They’re really good but they routinely lose a game when you don’t expect it. Can’t see a collapse but also can’t see a big extra surge coming from them. If you put a gun to my head, I’ll say they finish 4th.

I was on about Millwall there. I hope Hull drop down, helped by us winning up there.

Millwall need to win 9/12 and Hull 10/13 to reach 86 points, and that's probably not going to be enough for autos in any case. Not remotely perilous from our perspective.

Hull also have a pretty difficult run in. Out of their remaining games, and in no particular order, they still have to play us, Wrexham, Norwich, Ipswich, Sheff U, Millwall, and Birmingham.

I have said all along that I think 90 will be enough, Following the latest round of results I think with our goal difference, possibly 85 will do it. The highest potential points scorers after us are Boro and Ipswich, either could get to 99 if they will all their games, but not both, as they play each other.

No. Not at all.

Betting odds for league winners drop way off after us, Boro and Ipswich.

We are odds on favourites, Boro and Ipswich both c. 5 to 1, Millwall and Hull both 40 to 1.

Is there a requirement to show each team a certain amount of times? Might have been a choice to get two of them out of the way in one go.

Wonder if they've had smart meter yet?
Talking of smart meters I reckon they will be exposed on a par with the horizon scandal eventually, they'll have to print a lot of notes at the BOE to pay it all back.

Yes you did, but none of these games were in the 14 game period between our two meetings that I mentioned, as Shannerz says.

Nah, it clearly perplexed and frustrated him and he had a great point.

IMHO Targett's handball in our game against you wasn't intentional, but that's not the point. It may have came at a crucial time when we pulled a goal back and were dominant which made it frustrating at the time, but it came when it came and by the laws of the game, it was a penalty, I wasn't surprised to see it given and have no complaints about your being awarded it at all.

What I would complain at is the fact that Oxford handled too in similar circumstances in the box and unintentional or not, by the same laws of the game, penalty to Boro would have been the only right decision.
When that decision has been laid bare with reasoning in just the game previous and would pretty likely have put us 8 points above Ipswich and not 6 to nullify their games in hand.

I can perfectly understand Hellberg's reaction to this.

It's not, as he mentions that the underlying issue is that it shouldn't come down to decisions if all is well. He knows changes need to be made within our approach, takes that on the chin, and always absolves his players of guilt, blaming himself instead (as he did about the first half against yourselves for example)

But when it comes to lifelines being given, they should be consistent. The Leicester game tbh I wasn't surprised to see the eventuality, think that was merely the most recent in his mind at the time.
But our penalty against Oxford and your penalty against us should have had the same outcome, either they were both penalties or they both weren't.

In my own opinion they both were, so I'm hardly going to begrudge you yours. But we should have then likely beaten Oxford with one, (despite their record against the top 4 they offer less going forward to try and come back from a goal down) and as a result had more breathing space ahead of Ipswich.

A fact which won't be lost on Hellberg, and by not mentioning it, there's more chance it will go unnoticed by those that run the game and are ultimately responsible for inconsistent decisions, which I'm sure you'd agree the Championship has been rife with this season.
