I've been feeling really positive since Wednesday night which is not my natural state of mind, It doesn't sit right with me so I've been trying to reassure myself that everything is going to be OK by looking to see how long it took Boro to close the gap, the last time we had a 5 point margin and what it did to the gap to 3rd place.

We are currently 5 points clear of Boro in 2nd and 9 points clear of 3rd.

On the 15th December we had 47 points and were 5 points clear of Boro in 2nd (42) and 8 points clear of 3rd (35) having played 21 games,

It took Boro another 10 games to close that gap and overtake us by which point (after 31 games) the gap to 3rd was still 7 points.

I know anything can happen in this league but if we are still in a similar (or even, better) position with 10 games to go, I think I will start to worry a little less.
A bloody sensible take on it, thank you I needed this hahaha

I have been watching as team below us gradully dropout of the running for top two .The next I believe will be Hull.Next 4 games for them are Portsmouth,Ipswich and Wrexham away and Millwall at home.If they only get 6 points out of them games and we only got 4 from our next 3 (2 at home). They would still be still be 9 behind with only 9 left. That only leaves Millwall and Ipswich then there fixtures playing one another and Middlesboro draws would be nice, things looking up.
Enjoy the ride.

Am I the only one that doesn't remotely regard Millwall and Hull as a threat? At the end of the day if either catch us it will mean we've royally shit the bed and Middlesbrough and Ipswich will be miles clear of us in any case.
Both are doing remarkably well and are the type to be ignored at your peril who could trouble second spot

They’re really good but they routinely lose a game when you don’t expect it. Can’t see a collapse but also can’t see a big extra surge coming from them. If you put a gun to my head, I’ll say they finish 4th.

I was on about Millwall there. I hope Hull drop down, helped by us winning up there.

Millwall need to win 9/12 and Hull 10/13 to reach 86 points, and that's probably not going to be enough for autos in any case. Not remotely perilous from our perspective.

Hull also have a pretty difficult run in. Out of their remaining games, and in no particular order, they still have to play us, Wrexham, Norwich, Ipswich, Sheff U, Millwall, and Birmingham.

I have said all along that I think 90 will be enough, Following the latest round of results I think with our goal difference, possibly 85 will do it. The highest potential points scorers after us are Boro and Ipswich, either could get to 99 if they will all their games, but not both, as they play each other.
