Overall nearly all Championship clubs have cut there squads, only 4 have marginally increased their squads. No team has signed fewer players than Cov, no team has signed fewer outfield players than us., none has actually had fewer ins and outs than us. So it seems on the surface that many are cutting squads and costs but most who are trimming squads are getting in some replacements - only teams that are truly slashing and burning like us appear to be Leeds, Reading and Bristol - what are their League positions? Sorry this is all a bit anal but it does show that its not just us cost cutting.

Webber and fagan still free agents then? along with koumas a couple of them instead of 2 loans could be alright.

I am not defending SISU but maybe if some of the PR geniuses on our board looked at this type of info and showed that whilst we are cutting so are the rest of the division, try facts guys instead of bullshit and spin and you might start to win some hearts and minds.

This is what I have been saying for a few weeks. Not only are most teams cutting numbers but not much quality seems to be signed by many teams either. It was when I noticed this that I started looking more into what was happening everywhere else, not just at our club. I was not so much anti SISU when I saw it was just not our club.

I would say we have one of the smallest squads in this division, but we also have one of the youngest squads. We are not full of older players that will struggle to play a whole season even without injuries. We still need a couple of loans or more, mainly attacking midfielders, although it is a waste of time if they are not good enough. We are not carrying poor squad players as much as we did before.

It might do the opposite though when you really examine our ins to our outs and throw in the Scott Dann cash, our 4 best players out amongst them as well and all we get is two average keepers and a striker who cut it at League 2 level.
Our wage bill reduced dramatically and the liars still persist in throwing this £1/2 million loss per month garbage.
Thank God for Andy Thorn and the blessings of youth!! All that said Derby were awful so it could still go down hill fast again.

Four best players out? Now Gunnar has gone from being useless for 2 seasons to being one of the best 4 players we had :thinking about:We had both keepers on last game. Which of them looked average to you? The jury is out on McDonald though. We will see how he is after a few more games.

Derby had won 4 out of 5 league games before we played them. If they were not awful because we played well then it don't say a lot about the rest of the teams we are yet to play. Our biggest league defeat is by 1 goal. Not been outplayed in any league game either. To me we have as much chance of going up as down, and if they can keep the performances up now they have played some games together and the young players have a better Idea what it is all about then there is more chance of being in the top half than the bottom.

Whilst I agree with some of your views on our lords and masters Astute I cannot agree that we have a better squad than last season - Westwood was a far better keeper than Murphy or Dunn will ever be, Gunnar has bags of potential and was showing good form at the end of the season under AT and Marlon was a class act (on the pitch) and McDonald will have to perform miracles to fill his boots. Whether they were great players Carsley and McIndoe always did a job when called upon. Yes the kids have show some promise but this is a tough league and they will need resting and then what have we to come in........ The squad is paper thin and overall poorer than last year - there may be good financial reasons for this but its a very dangerous game SISU are playing with the future of our club on the pitch.

2 good midfielders in on loan and we could start competing long term, but if SISU go back on their stated intentions and continue to cut corners we are more likely to remain at the bottom. Its over to you Dulally!!

Did Mcindoe play for us at all last season? Did Carsley play for us after X-mas? Can't remember.

They still need to be replaced(Though hopefully not like for like)

When did Carsley ever do a job for us?! He could shout well but I've moonwalked faster than he could run! Gunnarson was a sulk for most of the last 2 seasons, even under Thorn he was irritatingly inconsistent. McIndoe did a shift but is getting on a bit. In terms of being thin, in the midfield is the only place we are quite short - upfront we have: McDonald, McSheffrey, Platt, Wilson, O'Donovan & Jutkiewicz, not all top class but most can do a job. In defence we have: McPake, Cranie, Hussey, Clarke and Keogh (plus any I've forgotten).
Not the largest squad, but enough cover for the odd injury. Dunn was brill on Saturday and looked like he commanded his area better than Murphy or Westwood, Murphy himself who is a brilliant shot stopper, though there's room for improvement.

So, whilst the squad is smaller, I'd say those we kept are an improvement in most areas except King's - who has been out injured the last month or so anyway.

McIndoe came on as sub a lot under Thorn. And it's worth adding Doyle to the un-replaced players as he played for us more recently than Carsley.

Westwood caught every cross going. I don't think we can decide Dunn is better than him based on a 45 minute appearance!

As far as strikers who can "do a job"-McSheffrey showed against Leicester that he aint no striker anymore. The only proven player on that list who we know can do a job regularly is Lukas, and he is not a prolific goalscorer. Take Lukas out of that strike-force, and you really will be hard pressed to find a weaker one in our division.

Also completely disagree about Carsley. Him and Turner were key to our start under Boothroyd, and even SKY did a glowing piece on how he had been instrumental. Never mind his leadership qualities getting an extra 25% out of some players, he constantly intercepted balls in defence, dropping in to sweep up.

I was going on what we had last season. We did not have Turner for most of it. King will be hard to replace, but he did not play anywhere near a full season. Would have been good to keep Turner as he is good when fit, but we still have a good defence. From what we have seen so far I would prefer to have Christie than Turner. He looks slightly more dangerous going forward with his crosses and he also has a good throw in on him. We do know they tried to keep King.

I think Juke will set up many more goals than he will score if we can keep playing the way we are at the moment. Also the youngsters could keep improving with experience.

There are a fair few if's and but's, but this is the same every season. Morale will be high. We played well with Sky watching us. How many players and managers will have been watching or have watched since? How many of these will be looking forward to playing us now? We must remember that we were playing a team that had won 4 out of 5 league games before they played us. You would have thought they were the team without a win.

Why do most players retire? is it when they realise they have past their sell by date for their division and do not want to go any lower?

Thanks Carsley. Hello Bigi :claping hands:

A couple of points: -

1) how can you compare Turner to Christie? Christie is not a replacement for Turner they play in different positions. Christie is a full back not a big dominating centre back and will thus get forward and cross the ball.

2) Bigi looks extremely promising and is technically gifted but he is completely different to Gunnarsson, who i think was a big loss. Yes, he may not have hit the heights of his first season but what he did bring that none of the other players do is provide a physical pressense, powerful surging runs with the ball, and make forward runs beyond the strikers.

3) We have lost 21 goals from last season - King (13), Gunnar (4) & Turner (4). That is a lot of goals to lose, especially considering the only outfield player we have brought in is untried at this level, and expecting anything more than 10 goals from him this season is unreasonable. That's still 11 goals down on last year, and i look at the squad and struggle to see where these are going to come from.

I believe our squad is superior from last year - Westwood, Gunnar, Turner and King are big losses.

I did not say they were not big losses, but the way the team has been rearranged this is covered in different ways.

Keogh is now in the position of Turner with Christie doing dangerous runs up the wing. I thought King got 10 league goals. You can't replace him easily, but as I said he did not play all the time. Hopefully Cody will get 10 goals. Turner missed most of the season also. We have a competent defence still. I am very happy to have Bigi instead of Gunnar. He had a poor season again last season. How many would choose Gunnar over Bigi? Yes, he is untried, but he has taken it all in his stride. When players are as capable as Christie and Bigi you need to give them the chance to play. Neither has let us down so far. They have both done excellent. I would go as far as to say they have been our best two players this season. Big teams like Manure bring their youth players through at an early age. They play at a much higher level.

The goals will come as we are playing in a more attacking formation, not just get the ball forward as soon as they can. Them 18 league goals from 3 players over the season can be beat by Cody, Bigi and Christie. We will have to wait and see. Cody is a striker and the other two like to get forward. 10 for Cody and 4 each from Bigi and Christie is not a massive ask.
