It's hardly a gamble. Taking into consideration Harris' budget at Cardiff as well as the quality of players he had at his disposal, he was vastly underachieving in my view.

McCarthy did a good job at Ipswich, with a far smaller budget than what Harris had. Would be a sensible appointment.

I saw a tweet yesterday from one of the Cardiff players saying they had no idea he had been sacked at the time it was announced.

No surprise sacking Harris, just thought they'd want a more progressive manager.
McCarthy did ok with Ipswich but was a disaster more recently at APOEL.

Assume it's just until the end of the season & they'll use dinosaur tactics (which might suit their squad tbf) to ensure they stay up then move on.

Michael Flynn would have been a good choice.

Was a weird appointment in the first place. Johnson had apparently lost the dressing room so they go and appoint his number 2. People I know down here wanted Hughton at the time.
