Having inadvertently derailed The 'European Gems' thread on CCFC general chat by mentioning the mighty To Madeira, I thought I'd start a thread dedicated to all things CM01/02. Tactics, player recs, your best and worst seasons, star players in real life etc.

A few links to start- how to download if you don't have the original game (approved by the makers Eidos- hopefully still works, I used this a few years ago now):

A great team guide including reputations, budgets, how the leagues work etc. :

Talents list- Has Taribo West decided that Trabzonspor is a better move than Telford? Can't get a work permit for Maxim Tsigalko? Find your plan B here (scroll down to the screenshots of a list of options for each position):

I remember could always get george weah on on a free at the beginning and was brill for 1 season

I'm still playing!

You can play with updated player data, and updated league and cup structures, numbers of subs etc

Here's the website where you can get all the info you need, download the game iso and patches.

Currently managing Maidenhead, now in League 2 after back to back promotions, testing the game on my new linux set up. Had Kai Yearn on loan in my first season - one of my more reliable players 😀

Edit: Sorry Mercian - managed to not read your post properly and repeated stuff

never signed Weah- don't spose you remember what team you were playing as/how much he wanted in wages?

I recently converted a perfectly functional but out-of-support Windows 10 laptop to use Chrome OS Flex, which in my limited understanding of computing is I think just Linux with a chrome browser pasted over the top? Apparently it should be possible to get CM01/02 to run on it but I haven't been able to do far, any advice? 🙏🤞

That's way beyond my tech level, but I did find this thread on the forum- may get some joy there?

I'm only taking my first steps in linux gaming really so no expert. Super quick search gives a thumbs down from linux_gaming reddit and a youtube video that offers some hope. I think it might be a bit faffy. If you can install lutris (a wine wrapper/helper) it might be doable but I think there's probably less help resources around than for general linux.

I've installed Bazzite which is a fully functional desktop distro but comes ready for gaming with Steam and Lutris installed. My laptop is fairly bog standard and it runs lovely.

What have you tried so far to get CM installed?

I did a bit more reading and it seems that Chrome OS Flex is not really linux. To install linux apps you have to first install a linux development environment which is basically a VM (virtual machine).

So you'd end up with Chrome OS Flex > running a Linux VM > running Wine windows compatibility layer > running Windows program CM. This seems less than ideal!

Are you absolutely wedded to the idea of Chrome OS Flex?

No not especially. It was just a free and easy way of rescuing a good laptop that was destined for the bin purely because it couldn't upgrade to Windows 11. To be fair it works brilliantly as a basic, every day laptop for browsing etc, it boots incredibly fast and is very stable and intuitive to use. I might pick up a cheapo refurbished windows laptop purely for Champ Man.

Fair enough. You can actually put Windows 11 on unsupported computers using a tool called Rufus to create the installation usb stick. I did that on an old laptop and its fine - dog slow but that's because W11 doesn't play nice with old spinning hard drives apparently. Follow up with another app called Winhance for a crap free Win 11!

Anyway, you've got options, especially if the laptop can be risked for experiments. Good luck!

Havent played for a little while now but my latest save was Torino. Always takes me ages to win my first Serie A as Roma are just unbeatable until Cafu, Batistuta, Montella etc have aged a bit.

Im tempted to start one with one of the big hitters over there to see if i can topple Roma within the first couple, i'd think Lazio would be the best option as they have Crespo.

I think my favourite save was probably winning the CL with Motherwell. Michalis Konstantinou was my main man in that save.
