Steven Pressley is running the rule over a couple of triallists this week, one from Scottish giants Celtic. The Coventry City boss is looking at an Under-21 development player from his former club as well as a teenager from north of the border who could fit into the Sky Blues Under-18s Academy side next year.
“We’ve got a couple in from Scotland, one from Celtic who we’re assessing for a couple of days and an Under-17 year old who is quite an interesting player,” said Pressley, who is looking to shake his squad up in the January transfer window.
“We’re looking at recruitment right through the club just now.”
Meanwhile, Pressley confirmed he’s not pursuing his interest in the striker he had on trial last week who played 65 minutes in the Under-21s who lost 2-0 to Nottingham Forest.

Hope it isn't another McGeouch?

Ah I know, but thought I had better bring it into here!

Whenever we get these people to "develop" they end up going anyway, like that Urquart fella. People 2 or 3 years younger were making our bench whereas he wasnt.

Mcgeouch was good!

I agree.

Also in the summer we brought in Kyle Spence from Crystal Palace and he looks like he could be a good prospect!

Good on FIFA. Don't get me wrong I agree in getting good youngsters, it is just when they come in, then go out randomly.

I agree with that Nick, we have seen it many times, what I would say is with these youngsters coming in we need to ensure there is more to helping there youngsters from over the border as they need more than just a wage..

Could SP be obsessed with Scottish Players

Many Scots are very cliquey in this fashion, lets be honest. It's the ages that concern me though not the Nationality. In League 1 you need physically and mentally tough individuals who are dedicated to the cause. you don't need a high turnover of other clubs youth players. Generally if they were any good they would be playing for their parent club anyway. I suppose they come for next to nothing though and this must be a big part of SP's remit !

He obviously has a link with Clubs in Scotland and being the Countries Captain you would have expected him to create those links, there are some decent players come out of Scotland over the last few years, if Pressley finds a Ryan Gauld, an Andrew Robertson or a Callum McGregor it will be worth it.

Okay the talent pool up there isn't as good as in England but we have to look somewhere, bar Rangers, Hearts, Celtic and Aberdeen is there really a player who wouldn't be tempted to come to a well sized Club like ours over some of the Clubs that are in Scotland.

Have we had a successful player (recently) who came to us on trial first as oppose to getting signed on loan or permanent straight away?

I think what has been proved time after time is that it doesn't really matter where the player is from, what club they come from or what standard they have played at.. We are not in a position as a club to look in one direction or assume that the player at a bigger club will be better than what we already have.. SW and SP need to get this right for once and start bringing in players that are hungry to prove to the management that they have a right to play for this club...

I don't care if the players is from East Bum Fuck or Barca as long as he is better than what you have at your club it will improve the situation on and off the field. And this is just not about standard or ability, its about the aptitude of the individual... I would prefer a hungry young talent then a talent that thinks they have already hit the big time because they have come form a level above... SW really needs looking at after this season as if the playing standard doesn't improve he has to be held accountable as much as the manager putting the team out on the pitch does.

Great so there will only 5 places from the 7 new signings no doubt a couple in for a month more massive investment from Sisu!

Now I don't wish to disappoint you here TGP but although the Initial Article suggested 9 out and 7 In ,the subsequent piece after the Board Meeting

held to Discuss the War chest was revised to 4-5 In

There's no harm in taking any player on trial to have a look at them, just don't sign them if they're crap or likely not to develop to be good enough, although that is always difficult to tell at 17-19 years old.

You have disappointed me although not shocked me, so really then it may be two or three, never mind will save me £300 odd next year on a season ticket.

Is the war chest the change down the back of Joy's settee.

I am just struggling to work out when something good last came of a player coming in trial?
