I've just listened to the whole thing and I'm really disappointed with the Minister's response. She seemed to focus her attention on the financial difficulties that clubs face up and down the country - as though Coventry's situation was just one of those things. But Coventry's situation is far more than just another club struggling with debt. It's about the club's owners trying to screw down the value of a key asset within the city to get it on the cheap. And in doing so, they are tearing a football club way from its city and its fans. The government should take more interest in this sort of bullying tactic from big businesses. If SISU get their way, they will own the Ricoh Arena and some/all of the land around it. Who knows what they would do next - but their behaviour to date has led 99% of us to assume that it will not benefit the city (which is what the regeneration of that area was always meant to do). Is this just a football club debt issue? Far from it.
Bob Ainsworth has done really well securing the debate and constantly keeping this situation under the spotlight. He needs to keep it up - then, at least, one day someone might finally understand the issue and bother to do something about it.
Oh, and I also love the constant attacks on Paul Appleton's shoddy administration process - nice one, Bob!
