I thought I was negative!

Four players above a C feels harsh, unless your ratings system is way stricter than we're assuming...

Harsh on Dovin and Wright very kind to Bassette. Rest are about OK. Outside of Rudoni I don’t think anyone had an amazing season.

BTA clearly more effective than Bassette overall.

Kitching was out of the side for (presumably) non-football reasons, but finished strongly. Harsh on him.

Wright had a poor end to the season, but possibly the play-off performances clouding opinion? He was very good before injury.

Dovin also hard done by.

He scored 12 goals which is a good return for a 46 game season, let alone 25. His MPG was up there amongst the best in the league.

What planet is the author on giving him a C grade?!

Grimes was a B for me. I’m hope there’s more to come from him. Wright is such a hard one to score. He fails the eye test miserably but his stats are top drawer. I’m not a fan of Kitching but not going to start that argument again.

I'd say we finished where we expected to finish at the start of the season. Which would mean a lot of C grades!

He doesn't. When he's on it he looks as good as his stats suggest he is. He can be a thoroughly entertaining player to watch.

I've said this before, and it might be wrong, because obviously I don't know the man, but he seems to have the personality type that that he goes within himself when it's going wrong, rather than fight through it.

One thing I'll say though is even when on form his decision making's not the best.

BTA is clearly more effective than Bassette.........as he should be for a proven Championship player vs a 20 year old Belgian development project.
I expected a bit more from BTA. Bassette has done ok for a 1st year in English football at 20 years of age

He’s one of the most frustrating strikers I’ve watched at City and the fact he is while still scoring twenty goals (equivalent) means he’s doubly frustrating when he’s not scoring. The one in ten games he’s on it he’s very good and he has a knack for goals. But majority of the time for me he’s an incredibly frustrating watch.

He didn’t choose to have one significant injury. With his numbers, Wright was on track to score 20+ goals.

If the grading was a B with potential to be a A had he played 40+ games, I’d understand that a lot more.

I agree with a lot of that, but not with your ratios. He's on it way more than one in ten, and it's not the majority of the time, it's phases. Start of last season, end of this.

He's crap as the number 9, though. He's an old-school inside left, where he prospers.

This just adds to the frustration TBH. He’s not going to do what we want a winger to do in this system and he’s not going to be a number nine either, but he’ll score you goals wherever you out him. It’s why I think if the offer comes we cash in, not a reflection on his ability, just how he fits into the side. It’s a really weird position to be in for a player who if he stays will probably break the all time top ten scorers next year.

Does he have to be a traditional winger to prosper in this system?

The issue, as I see it, isn't that it's hard to accommodate him, but that when he's off form, you carry him.

A centre half who made just 26 starts, featured in a shaky defence and continued to look erratic and short of pace??

C grade isn’t a grade for on plan that’s a B grade.

Do you think that Burnley fans are giving their players C’s because they got promotion and expected promotion ?

We still have a playing budget outside the top 6.

He really did. Some people can’t take any criticism of players. If we listened to you we must have the worst manager on the planet cos the players are all faultless. Our defence was an issue, if you’ve decided all the defenders are brilliant and irreplaceable you have to explain why that is and no it’s not all Brad Collins or Jay Dasilva.

I think Thomas and Kitching could be top championship pairing as they progress
Dovin too
Mve is clearly excellent

So ….

Both capable defenders and are undoubtedly the best CBs and pairing we have on the books. Kitching deserves credit for barely putting a foot wrong since his recall v Norwich.

Yet, there are genuine question marks over how they fit into Lampard’s system. Thomas in possession can be shaky and we need one ‘athletic’ CB to deal with counter attacks when we play a high line.

We do concede too many goals and part of that will be tactical but there have been no shortage of unforced individual errors this season.

Agreed, but often I felt this was down to the gaps we leave for teams to run into, and that's down to system, not individual defenders.

Having a bloke off the street in goal for us for a spell also accentuates defensive frailties.
