Carsley flying to Europe for double op (1 Viewer)

Coventry City skipper Lee Carsley is flying out to Europe for a brace of operations that will keep him sidelined for three weeks.

The veteran midfielder will have hernia surgery at the Munich clinic where team-mate Carl Baker was treated last month before moving on to have a nagging Achilles injury repaired by a specialist in Sweden.

That means he will miss the FA Cup tie against former club Birmingham City as well as the high-profile Championship matches against QPR, Nottingham Forest and Leeds.

“Lee has been playing through the pain as people like him tend to do,” explained Sky Blues boss Aidy Boothroyd.

“I’d love to have him for the whole of the season but he’s played more games at this stage than he has for a while and I’d rather get these things sorted out now rather than losing him for the run-in.”

The decision was made easier for Boothroyd because Sammy Clingan has recovered from the knee injury he suffered at Forest two months ago and was on the bench as Michael Doyle and Aaron Gunnarsson retained the central-midfield roles in an unchanged side for Saturday’s one-sided stalemate against Sheffield United.

“It gives you food for thought when you’ve got a player of Sammy’s ability available,” admitted Boothroyd, “but I thought it was a little too early for him and Aaron and Michael have done really well there, justifying their selection in a really good performance.

“I’m obviously disappointed for the players and the fans that we didn’t get the points we deserved because we provided some fantastic entertainment and created enough chances to have won five games."

Nabbed from Coventry Telegraph. Although Ray Ranson mentioned this in the casino after the match

Could be blessing realy, i would only swap 2 players now, clingan for doyle and king for duke. Then leave it for 2-3 games and see how we do. I think that is our best team.

When Turner is back put him ahead of Wood and that should be the strongest side we have

Shame about Carsley as he was doing a good job in midfield.

The only change I can see happening for Sunday is king in for juke box, I'm still pissed that he didn't bury that chance he had in the back of the net.
