Glad to have GK sorted - when you look at how instrumental Trafford/Cooper were last season it was ridiculous that people wanted Wilson to play for 3-5 months
Would argue as well as those two, Dovin was incredibly important to our winning run

A truly shocking moment for this forum that 60% + voted that they'd be happy going into the season with Ben Wilson. Seems the fanbase has been cucked by years of mediocrity... and mediocrity is being kind regarding some of those years and Ben Wilson.

It wasn’t a big investment really. If the club gets to where it wants to go then it’s extremely likely that we’d want/need someone better.
It’s too much for a back up GK. He was our best player for the 10/15 games before injury, there’s no way we’d essentially give up on him by signing a £6m GK this summer.

I don't think those 60% said they were happy , I think most thought that would be the outcome .
Surely suggests Collins is off on loan or a permanent deal

I'm pretty sure the question was 'would you be happy...?'
Anyway, thank goodness those within the club appear to have seen sense.

Need to start leaving a few players on the kerb outside Ryton with “Free to a good home” signs on.

Dovin earnt us loads of points after Christmas helping get a few smash and grabs, and turning draws and losses into wins.

This is true, but for me the really impressive point about Dovin was that when he made a mistake - even one that cost us a goal (Leeds at home for example) he continued to play in the same confident and commanding manner. You didn’t think he was able to drop the next cross or make the same mistake in the next game. Many keepers are fragile and a mistake will ensure that they are going to keep making them.

It’s taking steps to ‘Prem proof’ the squad, £8-9m on two GKs is not that much money in the grand scheme of things.

Loaning Rushworth only puts off the inevitable that we need to sign a permanent GK to fight for the Number 1 jersey.

Wilson isn’t that guy.

Ideally, yes. Frankly, the risk of needing Collins to fill in is too great. He was given one last chance fter Dovin got injured and he blew it, he’s done here.

The start of his Coventry career was strong, but then crashed like its 1929. He needs a change in scenery like Moore.

Very happy this move appears to be happening, but as I said at the time of his injury, this is terrible timing for Dovin and a signing like this casts a huge cloud over his future here.

Our best case scenario for the season now means he won’t play a single minute of league football for us this season - where does he go from here if that comes to pass?

He works hard, gets time to come back at his own pace and depending on the league starts as our number one next year.

Surely the best case is he comes back, is a monster, and Brighton recall their man in Jan because he’s not getting a game?

If our starting keeper for the first half of the season is droppable for a guy coming off a busted ACL then that would suggest all is not well with our season.

Hence the “monster” part. So what? Worst case we have an extra keeper for half a season? Hardly feels show stopping. I’d be more worried about Dovin if we’d signed him.

I must admit I voted no for Wilson to start the season especially after that display against Monaco, I knew we needed a keeper before but fuck me was he dreadful or what!!
Be glad when they announce the signing, we need a really good centre half next

A lot of uncertainty involved there for a player who (in this scenario) wouldn’t have played meaningful minutes for more than a year.
Uncertainty regardless following an ACL. Worse case for Dovin would have been if we bought him as that would have been him on the bench due to the cost involved. Not something we need to worry about for now, Dovin just needs to focus on recovery and then we’ll see where he is at.
