That's why people much prefer going away!
This is one of the reasons I hate home games with a passion, the class of some supporters at home games is nothing short of retarded!
At away games everyone is there to get behind the team!
It obviously helps that we win all our away games!!

Toxic? Absolute nonsense. The atmosphere is not toxic enough.
When we played at Sheffield United they were terrible, and their fans weren't shy to let them know it. That was the turning point for them, they got a good roasting and they responded to it.
So many times this season we have been turned over at home and there has been ZERO response from the fans. Suddenly, a few boos in the last couple of games and the players are suggesting this is the reason behind our poor home form all season? What a load of shit. All this wishy-washy nonsense about getting on the players backs is pathetic.
Don't agree with the targetting of individual players, and I like Baker, but let's not pretend we are particularly impatient home fans, because that is so far from the truth it is untrue.

Our home fans are definitely impatient. If we're not winning after 20 mins you can feel the tension in the fans rise because we should be "smashing everyone in this league".... We are the biggest club in the league remember....
So any mis-placed pass, poor shot or incompetance will be chastised by the idiots.
I'm sorry, but I think that is rubbish. There has been a bit of that in the last 2 or 3 games, but most of the season the fans have been incredibly patient. Far too patient I feel, there has almost been an indifference to events on the pitch.
I have been to most away games this season, and it is notable how a. just how poor the home support is vocally for pretty much every club in the division and b. just how quick fans of those other clubs are to show their anger at their team.
Sheffield United was a prime example of a set of fans that expected better. They displayed their anger, and in the second half you could see the difference.
It doesn't always work like that, but the difference between them and us is that their fans know they are too big for this division, and their expectations reflect that. Their fans may show impatience, but ultimately they will be the ones winning promotion.
Too many people at this club settle for shit and constantly talk the club down and try to convince those of us that know better that we should settle for second best all the time.

I don't get it either, a few ill informed grumblers in the crowd is hardly going to affect performance is it? Baker has his critics, I heard one in the Telegraph last night but I doubt Carl could hear him. Baker is an emotional type who blows hot and cold, one week after a win, the fans are the best in the league and the next after defeat they're all on his back. Professional footballers are paid a fortune to get on with kicking a bag of wind around not listening to one in the stands moaning. I suggest they focus and man up !

It will be only the minority of fans who probably don't travel away who rarely get to see city win who are getting frustrated - Captain Baker should be coming out thanking the fans for the home support & promising them that the team will work hard in turning it around at home - but great comeback last night

Good post. I don't get this constant talking the club down. Just about every other person in football who is spoken to about Coventry's position says something along the lines of us being too big to be down here.

What do you think the problem is regards our home form Ferret ?
I think that negativity has to be consider as a factor, maybe it's just that a lot of teams seem to come to the Ricoh with a game plan of counter attacking, who knows.
But it's something we surly have to consider.

Not in denial. I have walked away from some crushing defeats at home - Yeovil, Shrewsbury, Stevenage, Notts County, Carlisle, Scunthorpe to name a few where there has been almost no reaction, not even at the final whistle. A shrug of the shoulders and people just stomp off. Never have I seen City fans so accepting of home defeats, especially when you consider the standard of the opposition.
Not even against Swindon was there any real abuse, more audible frustration. Only last night did I detect proper anger. It isn't pretty when people abuse individual players, but honestly, where people get this idea from that we are particularly impatient fans I have no idea.
The guy above who thinks the 9000 who turn out to watch division 3 football are wankers, because on a freezing Tuesday night they show a bit of frustration and anger when their team is heading for a 5th straight home defeat, sums up what is wrong with this football club.

been saying for a long that we dont encourage our players to try anything other than basics, thus we dont unlock teams at home

Just to clarify....I did actually state "a significant proportion"......by no means do I suggest that all 9000 hardy souls that went last night are wankers, but one of the reasons I stopped going to the Ricoh (and there are many reasons) was that I found the general attitude of maybe 10% of the home fans I encountered were first rate twats....unfortunately for City, this significant minority also appear to be the most vocal....
...People are people, so obviously I'm not suggesting that all of citys away support are beyond reproach, cheer them on without a single moan & never grumble, but it is far more common at home games.
....I'd also like to clarify I'm a grumpy old man so my tolerance of people in general is reducing year on year..... PUSB.

This isn't down to the fans at home although I do agree they are unnecessarily negative, this is about our mentality at home. We don't get the balance right and either go too gung ho and get hit on the break i.e. Crewe, Yeovil etc or we sit back and let them play us off the park. You can play the counter attack when we are away as the home team will be coming forward which works like Bournemouth recently but this does not work at home.
We don't boss the midfield enough at home and as soon as we lose them midfield to create chances we are dead in the water.
I don't agree with Baker giving abuse to fans but 'Drainman' and other fans shouldn't provoke him, Baker like all of our players are hurting as they want to get promoted as much as the fans.

Honestly cannot put my finger on it. Most teams sit and we don't have the players to unlock teams that do that, that much is clear. Poor decision making, and poor finishing more to the point.
The chances we have missed at home this season has been criminal. How do you explain that? No idea.

So them on the field hear it as well! We should change our home ground to the Butts stadium and we could play with the same support as Crewe and the like!

I know you're kidding anyway, but you are aware the Butts has a capacity of 2950?
Interestingly, the Butts Park wiki entry has recently been altered to read:
"The stadium was built in 2004 and currently has one stand. The East Stand has a capacity of 3000 and includes a number of conference and banqueting facilities. The West Stand which was a temporary structure holding 1000 was removed at the end of the 2005/06 season on grounds of Health and Safety. It is noted however that the temporary stands could soon be refitted, if Coventry City FCs plan to move to Nene Park should fall through. This would result in an appearance similar to Brightons Withdean, or MKs National hockey stadium, but would be sufficient for their needs."
Would have to be mighty big temporary stands to increase the capacity from less than 3000 to 11000. Always been a silly idea that. Would be a great location for a football ground but has never been feasible.
Are you sure about the Butts, I've been down for the rugby recently with 1500 in there and there was bags of room...............................................not that I'm advocating for one minute we take CCFC anywhere away from the Ricoh. The capacity relates to the number of seats in the one stand. Don't a lot of people stand around the pitch for the Rugby? Not sure that would be tolerated at football. Wouldn't get a safety licence anyway.

Yeh, read that earlier myself and kinda lost interested after that. As for their being vocal, think the chap is a wee bit deaf as well. On which, in the emptiness of the stadium last night I found in interesting to be able to hear all the exchanges between the players, ref, and managers. Murphy doesn't seem to refer to his mates by name, only positions e.g. 'to the left back, to the left back, to the fooking left back'.
Not it doesn't. It has a stand with 2950 seats and that is it. The temporary stand holding 1000 has been taken down. All you have then is standing places around the side of the pitch.
