Cancelled flight compensation (1 Viewer)

Anybody know anything about this? BA cancelled my flight home today, literally just sent a text last night saying it was cancelled.

They rebooked me on a flight later this week as everything else is full but I need to be back at work tomorrow.

Had to book with another airline so I’m £600 down but from what I’m reading compensation is capped at a couple of hundred quid. Surely they have to reimburse costs as well?

Anyone had to deal with anything similar?

There used to be very clear eu regulations

Cheers, it seems to be that if they offer you another flight, no matter when it is, they’re covered for everything but the £200 compensation

Pretty annoying but is it a surprise that the systems loaded in their favour

I thought it was the case that they had to get you home on the next available flight ... not necessarily THEIR next available flight!
So they should book you on Norwegian Air, SAS, easyjet or whatever to get you home asap.

Seems to be a few things they should do but don’t actually bother

When they wanted to move me to a BA flight later in the week they didn’t even offer to sort accommodation

Looks like they make people arrange things themselves then make the system for compensation pretty complicated

Seeing lots of stuff about open and shut cases for compensation where people have ended up having to take legal action to get a penny back

Yeah, that’s my next thing to check when I get home

Logically you’d think if you’ve had to pay out an extra £600 to get home you should be able to get it back somehow
If you make a claim against your insurance and it is rejected and you disagree, raise a complaint and ensure you receive a "final response letter", which is usually issued within eight weeks of the complaint being raised. Keep a record of all written communication between you and the business, including the acknowledgement of the complaint being received, as well as the airliner.

If you disagree with the outcome, or you have not received a response within eight weeks of the complaint being raised, you can bring your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service free of charge. An investigator will look into your case, and will offer a "view", if you or the business disagree with the view, it can be referred to an Ombudsman for a decision. A decision, if agreed to by the consumer, is legally binding on the business.

The FOS is not a particularly quick service, but it's free, fair and impartial. To note, do not be surprised if your complaint is raised against a different business to who you have been dealing with, as they maybe the "broker", the complaint will be raised against the business that wrote the policy, known as the "underwriter". Apologies if teaching to suck eggs, but worked in banking for many years and the FOS previously, so have a bit of knowledge of financial products.

That’s useful, will have to do some digging when I’m back.

Just kind of seems common sense that if they say they can’t get you home on the day you’ve booked and paid for then they should have to cover the cost of someone else doing it but things are never that straightforward
