Transfer Rumour Callum Wilson (9 Viewers)

Wages permitted I think he'd be an amazing addition and think he'd be absolutely brilliant in the championship. I also like the fairytale, the prospect of him coming back to his hometown club to help them get back up to the premier league.

Great player but always injured and his wages could cover at least another couple of young players. Bad idea.

100% hes still good enough.

It should be on majority bonus related terms.

Its about 16 weeks work.

Give him 20 k per week.

Get us promoted then its £1m bonus. In Early may.

Jeez this has still got it. Its basically stay fit for 4 months.

I can't see this happening to be honest. Buuuut.....

Ignoring whether he wants to live in Cov or not (he could live elsewhere and commute into training - a lot of players don't live close to their clubs) and his injury record - which I know is far from ideal - if he stayed fit, he'd be a decent signing for the last 5 months of the season.

He knows where the net is, record of 1 in 3 which isn't bad.

If he passed a medical and accepted a pay as you play deal for 6 months, think that would suit both parties and would work well for us.

Still can't see i though.

Any idea why he's looking to cancel his contract? Isn't he playing much or has fallen out with the manager? Don't follow any football info other than on here!

It would be an amazing story if he came on a incentive based contract and was a part of getting his boyhood club promoted. Still a quality player and still has lots to offer someone. I just cant see it happening more based on Doug than Wilson as i think he would see emotional value more than financial value in coming. Would be some way to end his career back where it all started..

Pay as you play would be great

Anybody they sign has to have a further secondary value I reckon and not less than the starting value - hence Frank gets a wage budget and Doug agrees a transfer target based on resale value as that is what he can sell to his investors - Patrick Bamford would not have fitted this model

Grimes doesn't fit it either

If that’s the case we wouldn’t have signed Grimes.

I don’t genuinely think we didn’t sign Bamford out due to lack of resale value.

Otherwise Grimes wouldn’t have been signed or Paterson. Just think Bamford would have cost a lot in wages which Doug felt we could get better value for money.

His contract at WHU was/is highly incentivised due to his injury record

That being said, I can't see it happening if the hearsay about his private life are true, which I have no reason to believe they aren't

What I liked most about the Callum Wilson rumours this season, was the 'know-it-all' posters saying that there's no such thing as a pay as you play deal these days, and then went completely quiet on it when it came out that's exactly what he's on at West Ham.

Strangely, nowhere to be seen in this thread yet.

Wilson was on the bench for Wet Spam's home game against Brentford in October. They were 1-0 down at half time and didn't look like scoring. Nuno brought on a number of second half subs, none of which were Wilson, preferring to bring on the unexperienced striker Callum Marshall instead, who has a premier league record of 0 goals and 0 assists. West Ham went on to lose 2-0.
I'm guessing that his disullusion may have begun then :)

There’s probably a wage budget and esse will take a lot of it !
There's a budget. We would get about 180m over 3 seasons if we went straight back down. Then you have 2 seasons to get back up. The wage bill would be in the millions each month. Keep the spending down on signings for the wages for 3 seasons. Go down with a very strong squad. Get another 180m+ and try again.

Obviously a no go, he was on stupid money at Newcastle and I'd imagine it would be the similar at West Ham. With his injury record he isn't going to play into his late 30s so if I was him I'd bugger off to MLS or Saudi for a last payday at lower standard.

Tbf, I wouldn't judge him not being bought on by Nuno.

He lobes a big forward, not a Callum Wilson type.

That being said, I don't think he is coming back to Coventry still.

Just been confirmed that his contract has been cancelled by mutual consent.

My West Ham mate said he’s been one of their better players.

I'm not one for players coming back, especially those who are a bit older and have injury issues. Having said that, feel Wilson until the end of the season would be a good move all round. His experience alone would be huge.
