Callum Wilson and your loans. (10 Viewers)

Hi.

Couple of questions regarding Callum Wilson...... can he head a ball well and get on the end of crosses and do you think he can make the step up no problems?

And what do you lot think of the two loans you've got as part of the deal from us.

Good luck next season.

He's more a run on to the ball/take on players kind of striker from what we've seen. We didn't really get crosses in to the box for him so it's not easy to answer that, but I'd think it's probably not his biggest strength.

As for the loans, no idea yet! First friendly's today so we'll see a bit then maybe (although I think I heard Coulibaly might be injured)?

I wouldn't say that heading is a strong part of him game, he has electric pace and can finish a ball from almost anywhere. As for the loans, not overly impressed if it was part of the deal but if they do a job for us then fair enough. Sick of loan signings would rather have someone more committed to the cause but needs must and all that.

Hi there,

I haven't been going to games recently, like many Cov fans, so my opinion is not the best. However I did watch him two seasons ago and also a few games and highlights on the tv. Wilson isn't really the kind of striker to get up for headers. He's incredibly fast and makes most of his goals by having a bigger player head it on behind the defence - or the playmaker finding the hole behind the backs for him to run into. Two seasons ago he looked lightweight to me - skinny kid who was knocked off the ball too easily. However this last season he came back looking much stronger (he's still a kid remember). He was deadly when in one-on-one and even two-on-one situations. He outpaced every defender I saw him play against and became very calm and clinical in the finish.

Who knows if he will make the step up? I think it depends on whether he remains faster than the Championship defenders. If he is - I see no reason why he shouldn't score 20 + for you. I live near Bournemouth and have a house there so I will probably come a see him play a few times. Good luck for the upcoming season - I always look out for my local clubs too - Saints, Cherries, Pompey...

Coulibaly injured?

Not sure but most probably. The guy has undoubted talent but is more fragile than a glass hammer. I think he's played about 17 games of football in 7 years.

You'll do well to get 5 games out of him by January.

From what I've heard about grabban, he's a like for like replacement but it won't take him 5 chances to score. Should make the step up.

On the loans, happy enough but have you heard any news about McQuoid coming?

Oh fantastic! I may have dreamed it though?!

Not heard much about McQuoid, but to be fair he is useless.

You'll be much better off finding someone a bit better.

1 goal in 14 appearances for Peterborough wasn't it?

I'd echo what others have said about Wilson, that said he's also a decent poacher and scored a few tap ins gambling where a lot of our previous strikers would have been stood watching.

Very good finisher. Pressures defenders very well ( that was how we played last year) very quick, very quick with the ball also. Clinical finisher ( at least at league one level) Also poaches well. He works very hard at his game so would imagine if his heading needs improving he will work and work at it.

Your mid-fielders are the key to his success, as if they can find him particularly over the top from 30 - 40 yards out then not many will catch him and he finishes well -he is also very alert in the box from knock downs but doesn't score many with his head - could be a massive hit in the championship

Good luck next season.

Play the ball in front of Callum to run in and it will usually result in a goal.

At the start of the season he wasn't the best at 1 on 1 opportunities but this improved greatly over the course of the season!

As for heading, he's yet to score from a header I believe (while in our first team anyway; wouldn't say he's never ever scored a header, although I didn't follow his career in our academy after we ended playing in reserve leagues).

On the strength of one season and in division 3 Bournemouth have invested 2 million+ in him, a huge gamble imo. But if it comes off he could be a star and move on for a lot more than you paid. The problem Bournemouth have with respect is they are still seen as minnows and if Wilson succeeds you will lose him to a so-called bigger fish, but respect to you your club are having a go and if it comes off Bournemouth is in a lovely neck of the woods to attract players. I hope your supporters give him time, he is not Luis Surez

He makes finishing look easy, Lightning quick, goes past defenders as if they are not there , he will do well for you.

He's rubbish. If you have any influence, you may want to have a word with either your manager or chairman to facilitate his immediate return. I can't bear the thought of the once good name of my club being tarnished even further with this latest episode. Please.

Callums equaliser here sums his up pretty much! Really think he'll do well for you, defenders will never like playing against him. As for heading, we didn't get too many balls into the box during the past season so I couldn't tell you but his qualities are with the ball at his feet. Good luck for next season

Jeez, that first goal. I hope we focus a lot of effort on defending in pre-season

Oh great, since David Bell left we've missed a player like that.

It's definitely a gamble; a reported 3 million is a lot to pay for a guy who has had one good season in League 1. Know nothing of the guys we've signed to be honest but getting players and that sort of cash was a bonus I thought.

He does however have the potential to be decent, heading from crosses really isn't his strong point, his pace and finishing are however; there are so many pacey players that lack a final product, he doesn't. Generally if he gets 3 decent chances he'll score 2 of them. He comes across a good kid to boot as well, he could have signed for Norwich by all accounts but picked you guys because he's more likely to start.

Just interested to see if he can do it at a higher level against against better defenders.

Thanks for all your input guys.

How's your preseason going....any games played and any sign of Rocky (allsop) and Mo?

Played just over half a game today for our first against Nuneaton Town. Called off after 50 minutes after a storm stopped play.

Allsop played 5 minutes (planned for him to play second half) and Mo is injured
