I genuinely don’t think he’s all that. There’s a reason he ultimately lost his place last season. That Dec-Feb stretch everything he touched turned to gold and his goal scoring record was unlike anything else in his career. From that moment, we weren’t going to afford his demands.

I’ll risk the pelters, but the COH for Rudoni is a good trade-off at this point.

It’s not deliberate, we don’t have a midfielder who can stretch defences with their passing. Hamer had a low pass success rate %, even the passes that missed generally put the opposition defenders on alert.

The teams we go against know that they can retreat into a solid defensive shape and we’ll struggle to break it down. 0 goal contributions from midfield in 14 games sums it up.

Uncalled for. Nick's extreme advice on early doors tactics changes very little, regardless of the opposition. I assumed everybody takes it as a running joke. Obviously not.

I like Cal, good lad and decent enough player.

But there's reason he's still in the championship

He was around last year when we lost to most of the top half teams. Where we had the same kind of frailties we have this season.

What we actually miss is a player like Hamer.

In what sense is he a good lad ? Playing endlessly to the cameras on City unseen and gobbing off with that stupid gangster accent ?
An immature twat who has loads of potential but will ultimately be a journeyman footballer led by his wallet first and foremost .

Think we're missing a McFadzean type more, but do agree O'Hare would walk into our current team.

I'd have him back in a heartbeat

Bit harsh. He was good for us.
I'll always think a lot of him particularly those 2 goals against Leicester when the ground was rocking ,as were they.

Christ, not O’Hare again. He’s gone. Left. Does not play for us. The endless speculation when he’d obviously already decided to leave was bad enough. And we’re still discussing him. Decent player - not worthy of obsession.

Yes because COH is showing he’s a much better player than Rudoni in a team performing much better than ourselves atm.

But wait, the statistical comparison shows that Rudoni is outperforming COH in many metrics this season and in a worse team.

Based on what?

Compare the players this season and if you feel Rudoni has been lacking… One look at the stats show why Sheffield U fans have such a negative view on him. He’s not contributed much at all in a team towards the top of the table.

Carry on and slag all you want.
We want teams to be devoid of spirit /emotion, Simms seems a good example tbh, get ur mechanical fix, clap like seals and sing songs about our owner all you want.!!

I think we've missed his pressing and work rate for one.
The only other player in the team currently that has that kind of engine is Jamie Allen imo.

If we had someone like O'Hare in the team, I'd probably have Rudoni deeper in the midfield as well

Rudoni is outperforming COH on these metrics this season and indeed last season too. Again, playing for a worse team in both seasons.

This has Rudoni v COH 23/24 and 24/25:

You have a look at Sheaf and Eccles passes into the final 1/3 and into the penalty area, it paints a picture. Both players are fantastic distributors pretty much everywhere in the pitch but the final third. It means our forwards are generally starved of the ball in areas we want them on it. Including Rudoni.

Even Haji Wright is down on a few metrics he excelled in last season.

I think we did against QPR, there was often moments where the midfield looked closer to a midfield 3 with Eccles and Rudoni supporting the respective WBs (as well as BTA and Wright) in wide channels.

It’ll never quite be a flat 3 midfield as we know it because Eccles and Sheaf like to operate in similar areas. Eccles pushes further forward (evident in pass received stats) but the lack of passes in the penalty area tells me he’s not comfortable making those killer passes yet. Sheaf by contrast operates as a QB and will mostly be the deepest player in the team barring the CBs, ofc.

Wonder if we can do that with Torp instead of Eccles. I like Eccles a lot this season but he’s not better than Sheaf and we desperately need that link to the attack.

Agree with this. Ideally we’d be bringing Eccles on for Sheaf rather than starting them together.

I'm impressed when anyone can see any shape, pattern or system to our midfield. I see random & chaos mostly. Aided & abetted by no end product. If Sheaf is our QB he will never get anywhere near the NFL. His interception rate is through the rood.

Yes. The loudest roar I've ever heard when we went 2-1 up ! I won't deny he had some outstanding moments for us. Those goals you mention, the way he laid on that pass seconds from the end of the quarter final against wolves to Simms. There's no doubt he did, when he was on form, make a significant contribution.
I think he felt he was bigger than Coventry City. We'll see.

Reading some of your most recent posts, you've gone for 'this is shit', 'this is tedious' and 'this is ridiculous', closely followed by this post. I'll be honest, I don't think a discussion board is for you.

There’s a stronger case to tinker with the CM combinations than the strikers to be honest. We need someone in that area who carries the ball, puts more passes into the box and shoots more than Eccles and sheaf currently do.

I was impressed with Torp’s cameo v QPR and if he did that consistently for 90m, week in and week out, he could be the answer to a lot of issues we have. Unfortunately, that inconsistency in and between games is lacking atm.
