Unlikely to be us.

If O Hare doesn’t sign an improved Villa contract (& I’d be surprised if he doesn’t as all this is just agent bollox to get him an improved contract) then those Championship clubs with deeper pockets than ours will take a punt on a young kid who could be very good.
They’ll be able to offer a shit load more than us.
Unfortunately we’d like to think that loyalty & enjoying his time at City would somehow have a bearing in Callum’s decision and it may do. But once his agent sniffs more money & a bigger cut for himself-it’ll be highest wages win.
‘‘Tis the way of football.

Why all this talk if him staying at Villa? He’s rejected his second contract offer and reports are that he won’t get a third. Unless things change the only club you can guarantee he won’t be at next season is Aston Villa.

What wages do you think we can offer in the Champ? He's certainly be one of the better earners.

Just looked, average wage is 30k a week in the championship. Think any new signings will be lucky to get a quarter of that.

Although I do like O'Hare I still feel he was most effective coming off the bench against tired legs. That was in L1 so is he really ready to step up be a vital cog week-in week out a league above? I'm not sure. He's clearly got talent and willing to work hard but I think he needs a bit more development time.

No way would he be anywhere near this figure, and due to his age I wouldn’t have thought his money at The Villa would be mind blowing hence him apparently rejecting new offers! 30k average for Champ players is ridiculous unless you are one of the clubs relegated from The Prem and using parachute payments for players. I would take a guess at a 5-7k a week offer would secure him but would need to be a 3 yr deal

The likes of West Brom etc undoubtedly skew the average figure massively. I doubt any player at say Wigan or Barnsley for example are on anything like £30k

with the talk about clubs going to the wall, and a salary cap coming in, why are we any worse placed than other clubs? We have money from sales and probably some from promotion (if it's ever confirmed)
so we could be in a better place than a lot of the competition. I think we stand a very good chance of getting him, especially since he doesn't seem to be next in line if Grealish goes.
trust in MR to get it done.

Seems crazy, although I presume it's just me being naive. I really hope the average is being skewed by the top earners

Yeah it does, and you can see why so many clubs are in trouble.

deffo. when Villa went up, their wage bill was over £70m., Wolves was over £50m, compared to Burton and Barnsley who were 10m

I know championship players get championship wages but £1.5million a year as an average ? Can’t believe that but if that is the case there’s going to be some very nervous clubs looking over their shoulders due to this virus and it’s consequences due to lock down.

Generally speaking young players getting their first senior contract will start on a relatively modest (by Championship standards) contract of £4 - £10k per week with incremental increases after a certain number of appearances
The average wage will be skewed by players at clubs who've been relegated from the Prem

Might be a wage cap next season that brings down demands too.

There is always alot of players out of contract this time of year, but unusually there will be really decent players going to be out of contract, which probaly wouldent have happened if we were not in the middle of the pandemic, but clubs are very much tightening there purse strings

Pre Covid. A player who performs well in Lge 1 tended to go for £3.5m+, whereas a player who performs well in the Champ tended to go for £15m+.

There is almost a risk/reward in paying half decent wages to potential stars like O'Hare, and that fact won't be lost on the management either.

I wonder what sort of contract he's on at Villa.

Is he on a low contract as a youth player and would be getting a wage rise to join us for his first 'first team' contract?

Or are even the youth players at a club like Villa on a fair chunk and he'd have to take a wage drop to join us?

This transfer window is going to be significantly different to previous ones. In terms of O'Hare, to maximise his chances of career progression he needs to play week in and week out. Just as in the loan deals, the agent could push for a clause stating he must play [if fit], which could put a lot of clubs off.
If he can prove himself at Championship level, then both the player and agent could be set of a bonanza of a pay day of he moves on again after 1 - 2 years to one of PL big boys.
Therefore, in the medium to long term for the player to maximise his earnings a move to a club that will play him is in his best interests.
That of course assumes a mega rich CCFC fan with money to burn doesn't bank roll us to the Champions League, in which case he'll still be here in 5 years time>?

I'm optimistic and I believe O'Hare may choose stay with us. It is a transfer that makes sense for both him and the club. Admittedly, I said the same about Bright last season, and about G.Thomas the year we got relegated.

However, we can offer O'Hare a natural progression in a system and setting he is already familiar with, in a higher division. He is after consistent first team football in this stage of his career, he is aware of that, and we offer a very good stepping stone for him to progress his career. Looking at Tom Bayliss, he's had zero game time in the Championship after his big move, as did Bright - can O'Hare risk a career misstep at 22?

Frankly would rather have Walsh but I realise he is beyond our budget. I suspect O'Hare will be too. You would think one of the moneyed clubs at the top of the Championship would fancy him.

I think it's also important to remember that although he had a great impact on our team last season he made 11 of his 29 league appearances from the bench, that was at league 1 level.

He still has a lot of developing to do, he'll want starts in the Championship next season and I think we are one of a few teams that can almost guarantee that.

Although if a Preston offer him 5k a week more than we can he has a big decision to make. I don't see him rushing into a decision

The issue for O'Hare is first team football. There's a reason he's supposedly rejected numerous contracts from Villa, who look almost certain to be relegated this season. I doubt Villa are low-balling him either.

Wage average is disrupted by relegated clubs and their parachute payments and contract situations. I sense wages for championship players fall somewhere between 300k a year to 1m a year. A majority well under 1m. An few will be on crazy money where owners are pumping in cash to get promoted.
A team like us will need to match the majority figure which to my mind is somewhere around 3 to 400k a year. (6 - 8k a week) for top players. Not forgetting young players retained will not be offered that. They are still proving themselves, and will therefore have contracts linked to various add ons this season, win bonus etc. Their pay will increase dramatically but it won't be 6 or 8k a week. Incentivise players to perform and they will be rewarded. Do I think anyone will be offered 6-8k a week? Yes callum O'Hare should he sign.

Fair play to him if he signs as it would be for footballing reasons. Must admit I think he was still developing in League 1 and I think the Championship will be a big step up for him. If we could get him for £200k though his value will only increase even if he doesn't quite make the grade.

If we think about it logically (and we want him) we can get him for circa £200k, then pay him a good salary. If it's a two or three year contract and he does well/wants to move on, or is chased by a PL team, he would still have a transfer value that would allow us to recoup the money we've spent on wages. It's a no brainer from me. The owners ought to see the commercial value, as well as the footballing value.
