For anyone questioning it, give your head a wobble. His stats last season were just about top in every defensive attribute. I'm not saying it's definitely on, but if youre asking if he's worth it, I wonder what you're expectations are.

I think he's a great player but think questions about his pace are valid given the formation we play.
I'd still love us to sign him.

Anyone thinking Doyle will be signed must be on hard drugs. But.....

We have got about £2.5m for Binks. If we manage to get £10m for MVE that would be £12.5m. We paid £3.5m for KKH. If we sign Doyle for £10m it would be a cracking bit of business. It would be even better if we could sign him on loan with an obligation to buy. This would leave the money to strengthen the last few positions where we're not as strong.

We would start with Rushworth in goal, Doyle, Kitching and KKH at the back with Grimes sitting in front. Depending on how we set up we could also do with better on the left but it isn't as important as a striker who knows where the back of the net is. If this all happens I would change my prediction from 2nd to 4th to top 3. It's just hard to get my head around our record signing becoming a defender.

Agree. We’d be nuts to pay anywhere near that for him.

Surely no club will ever pay £10m in the championship for a defender.

Man City will have to drop their asking price if Doyle is insistent he wants to stay in England.

If that is their asking price, as usual with these things, does anyone know for sure?

Not many clubs in the Championship could afford £10m for any player, let alone for a defender, and he isn't ready for the Prem yet so a Prem move would most probably be a sideways move.

Both Manchester City and Doyle know he has to move on. He needs a permanent club he can grow with. So there's a deal to be made somewhere like lower initial cost with a higher sell on clause.

Spot on, the article said that was their aspiration (or close to £10m). IF we managed to get him, loan with obligation is fine with me. We shouldn't be dropping£10m on him, when we still have other needs in the squad, needs that will determine our season - Another Winger or 2, striker and another right back key.

We know nothing. Did anyone know yesterday morning we were going to sell Binks for £2.5m? A reserve defender for a quarter of what they might be expecting for Doyle.

Follow the same as Sunderland did for Le Fee. On loan for the season with an agreed fee only to be paid on promotion.

Another club may pay the asking price now which apparently is £10 million.

£10m for a championship level defender. The games gone.

I imagine the 10m would be made up of lots of Add ons due to his age, probably more like 6-7 mil plus add ons which i don't think is too much

Bristol city paid £8 million for Kalas about 7 years ago, a championship club paying £10 million+ for a CB is just around the corner.

City turned down a bid of £6.5 million from Hoffenhiem a few weeks ago for Doyle.

9-10m isn’t that much for him really. I would think he would be worth a bid by a PL club?

All speculation, remember Doyle was here under Robins, lampard may not even rate him, he was also friends with number of younger players, who have now left (howler, Burroughs etc).

As we've seen, Lampard will be backed for quality purchases.

I didn't know we'd ever had a Howler, although thinking back, I've heard a few references to that name over the seasons.

Edit: was he a keeper, perhaps?

If Doyle is available for a loan with an agreed fee on promotion. Then I'd be shocked if we wasn't in the hat for his signature. In the championship only a few clubs would be considered as realistic places that deal would apply.

We now are a club looked at as one of those, so if a deal can be done it's a no brainer. As I imagine Doug would see it as a low risk investment.

Lets see, but I still think we see 3 out this week which helps the budget.

The quality of Championship players and their values have risen in recent years. For a bit of perspective we've just sold a reserve defender that most agreed wasn't good enough for us for £2.5m.

Heard Binks going was one of the contractual demands after we decided to sign him instead of Doyle last year.

There isn’t any credible evidence whatsoever we are interested. It is more a pipe dream for most of the fan base and the fact we now need a LCB.

Doyle blossomed when he joined us, under Robins. He left and went to other clubs but I do not think he grew much more than as the person that left us. Therefore, if dictated by logic he would be best suited for Stoke and work again under Robins. There is absolutely no reason for him to be associated with us under FL, is there?

Ah mate I’d love there to be even an element or truth in it but I don’t want to get too excited yet, especially when we probably end up signing Jack Bauer from 24

+1 to this. Nothing to see here. I'm sure Austin/Lampard have a shortlist of replacement CB's. No doubt Doyle was on it, but his name has long since been struck through
