I'm looking to start a website retailing supplements and protein. Is there anyone that can give me any advice on hosting and building a store please? I have no idea where to start.

Depends if you want to pay up front and own it / manage it or if you just want to use Shopify and pay a monthly fee.

Margins are tiny on what I plan on selling so cheapest option possible until I build a customer base and scale it.

From what you've said so far, Shopify is your friend. Low monthly fee, templates are friendly to use, no contracts and upkeep with web designers etc. Of course there are some negatives to using somewhere like Shopify but as a start up I'm not convinced you'll find anything easier.

You are better off using something ready to go rather than paying a developer and then having to maintain it. Shopify is probably the main one.

Yeah I can sell at the same price as Myprotein for the same product. I can also sell others such as per4m cheaper than you'll find elsewhere.

Shopify is what I'll look to for now thanks @Potbellypig and @Nick

Good luck, i tried a T shirt business online years ago. Created a store on shopify.

The problem is the market is saturated and advertising costs way too much, the suppliers charge too much and therefore margins were too low. It cost me about £7 in advertising revenue to sell a T shirt i made £5 on.

You will find similar, I've seen online videos talking about how to setup a store doing online supplements already, I'm assuming you must have seen similar, and so will tens of millions of others.

Good luck, not saying don't do it, but be prepared this will not be the passive income boost you think it will be. Especially if you arn't familiar with it. The ship has long sailed once you see people talking about it on social media.

I see you've already said you've got small margins, you need to really stop and think about the advertising costs as well, if they are not already factored in you are facing an uphill battle.

I've started building it and put a few products on. Adding products 1 by 1 is an arduous task isn't it.
