BTA > Simms (4 Viewers)

Ran the left channel very well and showed good close control at pace. Not something I associate with Simms. We haven't seen enough of him in the 9 but to me he looks a better player. I get the argument for him coming off the bench too though.

Not gonna play the telephone pole role though is he, which changes the tactics considerably. Don’t get me wrong, Simms has proven this season he is pony. But he does jump for longer balls and temporarily occupy defenders (even if he doesn’t win it). And BTA has had plenty of games where he has looked like he won a competition to play a game for a pro club when he’s started.

Given the late stage of things I’d probably only drop Simms for Wright up front, ideally with EMC back on the left. BTA an impact sub for now when arses are blowing.

Simms a bit more of a nuisance today but still poor with his first touch and passing, although he knocked that ball over the midfielders head and touched it back down again in the first half, I laughed out of shock. Some really easy passes messed up. Wright more of a threat but frustrating and wasteful with his unnecessary selfishness.

BTA needs more time, he’s a good player.

Simms played well today , he challenged and harried the Boro back line before getting subbed. BTA also did well but Boro were chasing the game then and there was a lot more space for him .
I wouldn't change Simms starting but wouldn't be unhappy if it was changed either

What did Simms do to suggest he played well? I thought he was awful

He’s definitely made a case for himself but let’s have it right, BTA has put in some non-league performances for us. Starting him in such a big game following 30 odd minutes in two games after barely kicking a ball in anger for months is a jump. He had acres against a Boro team chasing the game. Different prospect Friday (until we score.)

Another perspective is BTA was playing with an injury. Recently he has been rested and now come back sharper and capable of a more explosive performance.

You can argue the game was stretched and Middlesbrough had to go for it - but you still have to exploit that situation.

Yes Friday will be different. But so will the following Tuesday be different again!

He was excellent, one of his best performances for us, even if a cameo. He absolutely deserves game time against Sunderland. Just think that probably ought to come as a sub.

Different types of player. Simms I didn’t think really got in the game - I think we worked hard, and there were times he should have been played in by wright and wasn’t.
But this game towards the end suited Asante and he played really well when he came on.
Stick with simms up top for now (if they’re going to play same formation) but encouraged by what Asante had to offer going into the semi’s as an alternative option
