Why cant you just accept it's not good enough.

It's clear to everyone, we're by far the best team in the league keeper through to Midfield, but are really lacking in the striking department.

You can blame the system, but Godden has looked well off the pace for weeks.

He may be carrying an injury, he may come good, that doesn't mean we cant and shouldn't point out poor performances.

If he was missing sitter after sitter I'd accept it wasn't good enough, we have played 3 or 4 strikers so far this season and none of them are returning the goods... Why?

Matty godden scored goals at every club, why isn't it happening here like it should?

I just don’t think they are great forwards. Godden is odd - he scored 15 which looks ok last year but actually at one point scored one in twenty

Bakayoko is a non scorer anyway and Biamou was signed in league two and started few games until Jones got injured

For me this is the worrying thing. With McNulty he missed chance after chance but you could see he was making good runs, getting in good positions. Goddens had 1 shot in his last 3 games. He's not involved. He had a good ball put into him yesterday and couldnt control it.

Last season was his first in league one all his goals have been non league or league 2.

I looked this up, he scored 6 in 9 since he returned from injury, 2 of those games he played a combined total of 28 minutes... So he's scored in 2 of the last 7 starts and scored 6.

He's not scored for 4 matches....and like you said he's had 1 shot in 3 matches... So where is he supposed to score there's no service inside the box to his feet at all

It's also worth pointing out that he played well off Bakayoko at tranmere in the second half at tranmere. I think he's struggling as a lone striker myself

Who could we bring in* that’s better? Genuine question, trying to think of alternatives myself. It’s really tough, and I’d prefer to have our own player rather than a loan.

Interesting perspective.

Is it fair to say that Gooden scores most of his goals in the 6 yard box?

Whilst someone on this forum shared a statistic that we’ve scored the least amount of goals in the league. You can see the correlation.

Despite the fact he’s scored in 2 games of 18, Robins still trusts him more than the other options, which is revealing in itself.

Biamou should get a chance v Bham, perhaps against Bolton too and see what he can do.

It's the 18 yard box we need to be getting ball to feet, to any striker not just godden... The funny thing is most strikers are not Lionel Messi and can't take on 3 to have a shot and score every match they need service.

I don't know. I think his issue is he has no real outstanding attribute. He's not quick enough to really trouble defenders, and he's not strong enough to put himself about. He also isnt someone who's gonna smash one in from distance like McGoldrick or Armstrong.

The Birmingham game is a good example, their back 4 were big and strong, he didnt have a kick, but as soon as Biamou came on who's bigger and stronger we began to win some ball up top.

I watched biamou at Fleetwood and when he came on yesterday and our striker are doing the same thing, not getting service, drifting wide to create holes and that's about it.

Biamou has had 1 shot in his last 45 minutes of game time... . Its clearly the way we are set up and the way we play

Don’t understand this critism of Godden he has a roll for the team which he does well. He creates space by working the line, stretches opposition defenders, set up the Walsh goal yesterday.
Look at the great Liverpool team their number 9 Firminio they say is first name on the team sheet doesn’t score that many goals but creates the space for Mane and Sala, yes I know different class of players but basically that’s what Goddens role is, he will score more goals. When McNulty got his 28 goals the return from others especially midfield was pathetic. We are playing well, winning games, last years team wouldn’t have won yesterday, it’s working why change.

Tbf, we're crying out for some genuine pace in this team. Yes, he missed a lot of chances but I dont understand why he's been totally bombed out by Robin's.

I was thinking this, he would have a field day in this team, what he has and what is lacking in our strikers is the pace to create a goal for himself

Id also like to point out that Adam armstrong scored in 12 of his 40 league games here and in just 3 of his last 18 matches.

Wrong reply sorry but I agree Hiwula should be the one in and not biamou and baka... Godden and Hiwula are the two best strikers at the club

Armstrong went through long periods of not scoring though, scored in 3 of 18 matches at one point ? Similar issue really

He didn't score in 28 league games from 40

I’d say it’s relatively healthy criticism. Think Godden knows he should be doing better as well. I like the guy, works hard and is a reasonable finisher but part of it is down to not being in scoring positions due to a lack of one particular physical attribute as stupot says.

He scored in 11 of his first 27 games. He then went on a 12 game drought before scoring last games of the season. He went through 1 long period of not scoring. He was also an 18 year old lad, and the whole team dipped. He missed a lot of chances in that period.

He also looked head an shoulders above league one standard. Godden looks like an average league one striker.

Armstrong would score for fun in this team.

I'm not even saying Goddens rubbish, just that his current contribution isn't good enough.

I think that part of the problem is that he's had too many rolls for the team.

Agree the formation is making his life hard. I guess there are 2 agreements that can be made.

1. Service is poor so how do we expect him to score goals?

2. He does not find the right spaces to be a dangerous effective forward.

As someone said there are some forwards who specialise in the role were asking Godden to do. I don't think he is one of them. Does not make him a bad player though.

I think some would like to have a striker with 20 goals and be lower to mid table than be challenging at the top. We have what we have and do you know what? it is going just dandy. That man Robins has my support.

I've been a City supporter since 1963. I've seen many managers come and many managers go, but for me Jimmy Hill will always be my favourite. Having said that, Mark Robins is coming up fast and will no doubt take over as the "historical" fans favourite manager ever - including me! He has done a tremendous job with limited resources. We've had to play home games at Sixfields and now Stan's. It hasn't stopped him doing the job. I was one of those who, when he returned to us after that seemingly sneaky move to Uddersfield a few seasons ago, said "I bet he'll be gone again in six months!" Well, I eat my words! The man is a genius! Even if the worst happens and we somehow miss promotion (which I now doubt!), I believe he would still stay with us and try again.
Carry on Mark! PUSB!

Agree, but listening to Mark Robins interview on CWR when he meets Joy Seppala he is going want to see some action re the Ricoh and a firm commitment to the budget to invest in the squad for next season and if he doesn't, I think he will go.

He won't have a problem getting a job at another club .

SISU / Council / Stingers etc really need to start talking to each other urgently. We simply cannot afford to lose MR now, and I think he will go if the situation continues. I really believe that the squad hugely respect him and his decisions. Who would we get if he left? It would be a downward spiral straight away. We need our own ground as a matter of urgency.

I think he says he would like to see a sustainable return to Coventry which isn’t the same as wanting a return to the Ricoh - especially under the same terms as previously.

Was never that good. Had good stats because he'd put his foot on the ball and pass sideways, so he made lots of successful passes but more often than not totally killed a breakaway and allowed the opposition to get back. Clingan was similar.

. He was poor here IMO but abysmal is harsh
