Strange move, as whilst the majority are acts to try and stop play / play acting, the odd one might actually be a more serious injury?

Yes the ref has the final call but even they make the wrong call sometimes.

To openly say ‘if it’s not broken or you’re not bleeding from the head, we’re playing on’ is a little bit naughty, and will likely be one of those ‘if it’s your team you’re fine with it but if your the opposition you’d be fuming’ Kind of scenarios

Now the drop ball law has changed isn't it easy for the ref to just stop the game without the need for the ball to be kicked out?

Only concern here is remember Luke Thomas v Peterborough away when he was booted full in the face & ref incredibly didn't stop play (nevermind awarding the most blatant penalty ever)?
Could have been very nasty.

The easiest approach of all would be to change the archaic law, and allow physios onto the pitch to treat players while the game goes on. Play-acting will then cease, as they know it won't waste game time. The ref will blow the whistle if the treated player is in the way of the game, restarting with a scrum ... errr, drop ball!
