Yes it was just reported as an improved contract which I thought was strange at the time

I read it and it said an improved contract but didn't set out the length. I'm sure before that he was on a rolling deal.

So when he got that contract I got the impression it was more about him getting more money rather than him being tied down.

Happy to be proven wrong.

wasn’t he on a tied down deal when he left before?

Quite possibly. That's the thing with managers - they can end up moving and the compensation packages are far less luctrative than players.

If you've got a good manager I'd do my best to get him with a huge release fee on it. A good manager is worth loads more than a good player and far, far rarer.

If a player or manager wants to leave there’s not a lot a club can do about it.

Most managers are only a few bad results away from the sack the length of contract doesn't really matter he was on a rolling contract when Sunderland came calling and he turned that down so contracts don't mean much

Good managers already here wouldn’t agree a huge release fee and it works both ways - so they get huge compensation if it goes south

Anyone seen the ‘sporting merit’/PPG* final league one table (saw Prem and they had Liverpool ending up on 109 points !) ? Thought someone would’ve knocked up a league one version by now ? apologies if I’ve missed it

*from what I saw it’s not quite as straight forward as a standard PPG calculation

I have... We miss the play offs by one point, thanks to Bakayoko missing a sitter in the 98th minute v Wimbledon
