Bright and Walker (5 Viewers)

Apart from our supporters sites and the gullible Coventry Telegraph has anyone actually mentioned these two are our targets? The CT watches these sites and anything they can pick up on they do, why? Because the club don't communicate with them. We don't need to go into the politics but the CT are not the flavour of the month. It also got me thinking have the CT actually guessed anyone correct with our Summer signing? They guessed the outgoings because it was common knowledge, but the in-comings?

Dave Boddy confirmed Bright was a target a while ago.

To be fair, why would the club need to communicate who their targets are anyway?

I agree, but if that be true what percentage is it that Walker is a target?

Well, it’s been reported in the CT, which has then obviously come from here. I’d expect Robins to say if he wasn’t a target, which he hasn’t. So I’d say there’s truth to it.

For the other rumoured targets, McCormack etc, the CT have shot it down. They haven't for these two, which should tell you a lot.

Maybe Robins likes the way the CT concentrates on particular targets because then he can focus who he actually wants?:cat:

I'm guessing if these deals are going to happen they'll happen after the PL and Championship transfer windows have closed on 8th August.

Think CT ran Mcfadzean story after the Derbyshire telegraph all but confirmed the move the day before?

Don't think they knew about Marosi.
I think they knew that a keeper was about to come in. And then they had a prediction about a right-back on the day Dabo signed.

Yes they ran a piece on 'potential keepers we could sign'...

But they tend to get there info from either other newspapers or forums. They don't tend to get first hand transfer info anymore.

The CT have absolutely no dialogue with the club because of their stance towards the ground issue and their hatred, rightly or wrongly, to our owners. But when we get headlines like 'major blow ....' how much do they actually know MR's targets?
Last season it was the same with Chaplin.
I know the CT are fighting for their lives as a media outlet, and I have heard mention the Mirror group are planning on combining Coventry with the Birmingham Mail now we are part of Greater Birmingham. But seriously, when their source is usually sites like this and not the club, how can they be taken seriously?
Let's see today what Mark has to say about this issue.

Pretty sure walker was a long term target and bright is still very much in his thoughts. You’ve got to be thinking they’ll be working bars throughout August to add to the squad. I also think Westbrook will do well this year

I’m assuming the club’s stance against the CT has softened over the last few years as Andy Turner still seems to get his fair share of interviews and the odd ‘scoop’. The non-footballing side of the club is where they seem to lack information/sources.

Andy Turner is a very astute journalist. He can have one interview and report sections at a time so it lasts the whole week. Andy is too good for the CT but they have to keep him because he seems to be the only link between the paper and the club.

Although I think part of this has been due to the issue regarding the owners and stadium, I think in the current media local papers in general don't get much info because it's not their main contact point with fans. They can release info via Twitter or on the website and facebook, whereas years ago the only outlet they had was the match programme. People are paid by the club for this very role so why would you give someone else the info to release first? Which leaves the papers with nothing to report until it's been released elsewhere making them irrelevant and the only thing they've got left is to comment on speculation and rumours.
