What Dabo has always done in his time here is step up if called on, even if maybe not to his personal advantage. Playing through injuries, playing at CB, taking a penalty... all would have been better for him not to do. But when called on, he's done it. You'd want him with you rather than against you come the revolution... although guess if he was a sniper against you he'd probably miss.

Yeah racist abuse is pathetic and unforgivable. I'd love to think it was just those weird accounts setup just to be racist to people rather than city fans doing it.

Cunts.

Like a lot of us i felt Dabo was going to miss when i saw him walk up to take a penalty...tbh that will be the last touch of the ball he has in a City shirt as i don't think he's being offered a new contract, that's a difficult situation for him to handle mentally...i hope he's ok.
The racist abuse is vile and just adds further to how the poor bloke will be feeling...some truly horrible C***t's on Twitter.

Is there honestly anyone who thought that Eccles, Kelly, or Sheaf were going to score their pens?! You’re all total madmen.

The racist abuse is 100% wrong. Doesn’t matter what the colour of his skin is. That’s irrelevant.

What matters is his miss, has cost us going up, our best chance in the last 21 years of returning to the PL, because he simply couldn’t kick a football properly from 12 yards with only the keeper to beat.

I for one, hope we never see him at the CBS again, because my feelings towards him, which have been swaying all season from one of my favourite players, has now gone right the other way to one of my most hated players.

But none of this should be based on the colour of his skin

All players miss penalties, no matter what level you are at

See below video and in particular review penalty numbers 5, 8, 10, 12, 17 and 20 which missed the target or hit the woodwork...

But it's all from bots and trolls abroad, I'm certain there won't be any Cov fans doing it, and probably not even anyone in the UK.

(not saying that makes it OK, just to clarify)

Apparently not, fair fucks to Dabo for having some steel between his legs to make the walk unplanned.

I honestly think this is shocking

Dabo stepped up to take the penalty - he’s not a penalty taker. He’s clearly struggled with injuries and isn’t the player he was but certainly in league 1 he was a great player and has always served the club well and did his best

I’d imagine he’s feeling devastated now and it will probably live with him for some time.

Someone had to miss and it was him. I assume if the goal against Panzo stood he’d get the same but the penalty makes it more targeted I think

I assume he volunteered when others didn’t. Look at them perhaps

So unlike Blind Faith.

I have always had him down as a very decent poster.

Don't know how you can hate a player for missing a pen and the loss is not on Dabo .

As people keep saying, where was anyone else stepping up? And where was Dabo in the first half when we were pretty awful? That's right, not even on the pitch

Players miss penalties even big named players take Kane in the world cup. So no blame on Dabo, he was brave to step up to take it compared to others who we thought might have but didn't. If you asked me to pick between Hamer and Gyo to stay this summer, it would be Hamer, offer him a new contract on premiership wages, tell him you are our main man buy a few decent players and I can't see why we would not be challenging again next season, don't forget we also have the best manager in the league. We will rise again together

I don't really feel any better from the 'at least he was brave enough' side of things. A professional football player should want to have an opportunity to take a penalty, and the management should have a prepared hierarchy picked out in the eventuality that a shootout could happen. That should be based on ability.

Of course some of us felt like one or two of the other penalty takers might miss, but there was a much different change in atmosphere when Dabo stepped forward. Judging by the people around me in the stadium and on here, many had little faith he was going to score. It is a totally shit way to go out, and of course he didn't miss on purpose. I feel genuinely sorry for him and hope he can bounce back from it, but looking at the bigger picture, he has been absolutely horrendous for us for a long while now and his goal related stats are shocking. I'm afraid I cannot accept that he was the sixth best penalty taker on the pitch.

Robins said we were going to practice them so I'm sure we did.

Maybe Dabo was banging them in during practice.

Maybe some of the designated takers lost their bottle.

Who knows

I think you need a nap or a snickers today to stop being a little bitch. As I said in a previous post if players didn't miss penalties we wouldn't have shoot outs to decide the outcome of games. On the racist abuse that is totally disgusting and shouldn't be accepted by society. I hope they are found and punished!

I thought Bidwell would have taken one but I was watching him after Luton scored the late goal which was disallowed and he could hardly walk, so that might have been a factor. Might not be either, of course.

Yep, you could see this when watching it back on the TV this morning. Bidwell was rolling his right short leg up as if he was going to take it and then it cut to Dabo stepping forward.

All this “I thought Gyokeres would miss, Eccles would miss, Dabo would miss bollocks” is on us. Gyo
& Eccles scored good penalties, Dabo missed his as so many have done in big games. Not deliberately and all these racists crawling out of the woodwork, like they did for the England black players, is a stain on all of us.

Disgusting abuse he's getting, needs to be investigated and any fan they can identify needs to be banned for life as well as any criminal prosecution.

Like others have said, Dabo shouldn't have been that high up in an ideal world. Hamer, Doyle, Palmer, all take one before him if they're available. Bidwell needs to step up as well. Takes a good set piece and strikes the ball cleanly.

I've been in the same situation, where I was the only one to not score in a penalty shootout, it's horrendous feeling but I can't imagine how he'll be feeling after that.

Someone had to miss or we'd still be there. He's not a recognised taker and we've seen Vik miss earlier in the season, in fact around 1 in 4 on average are missed or saved. Add in the pressure and I'm sure it's higher.

I hate it when it's one player, always better when at least one if each side in the main 5 miss so it's a shared burden.

I'm amazed blind faiths post on here so bitter towards one of our own. If I'm honest whilst the unnecessary racism is disgusting, it makes me equally angry that any of our fans could be so cruel. I wanted him to score too of course and was consoling my daughter who was so incredibly upset at FT, but felt so much for Fanky too, he's been part of out journey, integral of our L1 winning side which is why we had this opportunity. I know it's a forum, we all have our opinions but nonetheless genuine fans shouldn't be singling out. We're all one SBA family, we win together, we lose together.

Is that your opinion you've formed this season when your sat in your armchair at home watching?

Always seems to be the ones that barely go to games are the ones that have to give their negative opinions of players.

The culture in football around penalties is quite strange. This thing about, in the heat of the moment, ‘who wants to step up and take one?’.
You’d think the manager would assess who’s best after a lot of training, have a chat about coping with pressure etc and draw up a list in priority order. Then just follow it depending who is on the pitch.
Dabo was likely to volunteer because of his personality that doesn’t mean he was the best choice.

Absolutely disgusting. If accounts can be linked to “genuine” Cov “fans” - the club should be banning them from everything CCFC related.
