Yeah Morgan Rogers for them was impressive, maybe one we would of been in for in the summer if we knew we’d end up playing 433

Yeah.. man I miss watching him! Really hope there is some gem out there with a similar play style we can unearth. I'm stumped with my limited knowledge of UK based players. Just imagine a Hamer 2.0 in this team we'd be so good to watch

There will be someone out there that will fit the bill. Just a shame we won’t be able to find them as our recruitment is shocking

A few real harsh scores for Simms He was good bar his miss. Did very well for the goal. Hadji made the correct decision just as Simms did last match. Great they are both getting in the right places. Bodes well for me, feels like he is at the same point Wright was before it all clicked.

Really hope he makes people look stupid

We seem to have accepted that Wright will miss a sitter a game and that it's part of the Haji package! He seems to beat himself up less when he misses one now too.

We just need to accept that Simms will also miss good chances and not get on his back about it. Like all our players, if they were better, they'd be in the premier league.

Apparently Josh Eccles is our best 'key passer', ranking 15th in the Championship. Counterintuitively, Jay Dasilva is our next highest (17th in Championship)!

Easy to forget Simms is still 22 (23 in a few days) he has loads of time to improve and bags of experience at our level and higher. He'll come good

Will you still be saying that if Sakamoto has what is now his normal game, rips them apart and scores?

If we had bought in the UK market I would agree. But we have brought in some players with excellent prospects. Have a good game against Leicester and they will be in the shop window. Half a season to prove themselves.

To be fair, most of that will come from taking corners. Corner takers always have higher key passes stats. He's taken over 100 corners this season.

Simms has gone from the old system of holding the line to now being up front with Simms. Something seems to be going to plan with the way they celebrate the other one taking their goals

I was just about to post that a spokesperson from the SDF (Sheaf Defence Forces) would be along shortly to rubbish the stats, but with true predictability, it's already happened...

I've not rubbished them, just added context.

Hamer was a special player, but even his key passes were inflated by taking corners. I bet if I go through the top 10 in the league they will all be corner takers.

Key passes per game when you exclude set pieces:

Sheaf 2.70
Eccles 1.86

Top 5 FWIW:

Ayari(!) 4.10
Palmer 3.17
O'Hare 3.15
Dasilva 2.97
Sakamoto 2.80

I have excluded Hamer, as he was top with 6.25 but from 60 odd minutes played or whatever it was.

I used the SCA (shot creating actions) stats for this.

That isn't the same metric as what is being talked about. The formula also isn't correct as the per 90 weighting.

Regardless, we could also do a chances created spreadsheet based on a latitude and longitude coordinate range on the location of the stadiums the matches are played in, if we really want to skew things as much as possible.

Key passes were being talked about, which is defined as:

KP -- Key Passes
Passes that directly lead to a shot (assisted shots)

I used shot creating actions, as it's possible to remove set pieces from the numbers

SCA (Live-ball Pass)
Completed live-ball passes that lead to a shot attempt

It definitely is, check your maths!

I'm not trying to discredit Eccles, I've been one of his biggest supporters on here for years. Nor am I trying to discredit Sheaf. I was just replying to the posts about key passes with and without set pieces.

It's a pass that leads to a shot. That shot could come from anyway and be off any quality. The header from the defender here would be classes as a key pass

Just like Brian McClair got an assist for Beckhams goal against Wimbledon.

Thomas was clearly behind McNally when we signed him. Thomas loaned to L1, McNally to the Championship. Burnley would not sell us McNally only loan him. They clearly considered McNally the better player. Think McNally will come good at Stoke with the new manager but wonder which player will turn out the best?

It's different, look at the terminology. Your selection also includes fouls drawn and defensive actions which make up the total SCA formula. The maths also isn't right, the fractions from the total split into per 90 don't add up at all.

There's also multiple stats including through balls and GCA (completed live ball passes that lead to goals) that Eccles sits top of, which unsurprisingly hasn't made it into this conversation.

You say you are not discrediting Eccles, but that's exactly what you are doing. Someone posts a positive stat about him, and the same group of people come in and try to pull it apart, bending the stats as much as possible in the process to achieve said goal. If it was Sheaf in those stats, the response would be a lot different, as would the percentage of Kleenex tissues used in and around Coventry area.

We miss a player that can make those decisive through passes which they were doing first half, cutting us open, Eccles slows us down too much at times, even when he has time on the ball his first instinct is to play backwards that said it was a fantastic TEAM performance from the lads and Saka just a whisker away from getting a hatrick and the ball over the top to Hadji...wow .....e i ei ei eio up the table and all that been a great festive season watch us fuck it up against Oxford

You're obsessed with putting Eccles down at any opportunity, and refuse to acknowledge any time Sheaf makes a mistake. Swansea was another glowing insight to that, as was your leap to jump in here when someone posted something nice about Eccles.

A one liner about losing it and a a row of laughing emojis doesn't do much for that unfortunately.

I was pointing out facts. That is all. Not putting Eccles down. If you take corners you will get more opportunities for key passes, especially if you're playing as a CDM. FACT.

You're the one laughs at any post complimenting Sheaf, talks about a Sheaf Defence Alliance Or whatever, and talks about needing Kleenex.

Fernando even said he would have Eccles in over Sheaf, but posts that having watched the match back he thought he was out best players and you laugh at his post. You're the one with the irrational dislike of him. And I'll say it again, I have never said Eccles is league one.

I think you have misread then.

The stats I posted do not include those things.

Actually you've misread the table, because the maths are perfectly correct!

First Half:
GK: 8, great saves, kept is in it.

Back 4 all 6s. They were sloppy, error prone and generally a bit shit. Actually Binks gets a 5.

DM: 6 see above, maybe 5 for Sheaf for some piss poor passing.

AM/Widemen: 6, Saka gets a 7 for tenacity and a bit of quality.

Sims: 6 didn't have nowt to work with really.

Second half:
8s across the board except Sakamoto, he gets a 10. The ball he played to Wright with the outside of his boot was beautiful.

Special mentions:

0 ten for the man in my row who kept dropping yuletide gas bombs.

10/10 for the two old boys that kept chanting can we you play you every week untill it actually caught on (took a good 15 minutes).

0 ten to the 12 Boro "ultras" (the red faction, I think(insult to the game)) who, if I'm not mistaken had a megaphone. Give it up boys, it's embarrassing.

Thomas has looked a somewhat better footballer than McNally right from the start IMO. McNally has a longer neck though.
