Every year I get less interested. Could be a sign of getting older or the increased revolting commercialism there seems to be. It seems that for all the expense and build up, it is far too short. Come Boxing Day everyone is back in the retail parks like nothing ever happened
I'm the opposite. Every year I love Christmas more.
Dislike all the Christmas stock in stores in October and the Christmas songs blazing out in the shops and malls, but I simply block that out of my mind.
I get really Christmassy with about a week to go. Before that I am not interested at all, but with just the odd few days to go the spirit really kicks in for me.
I think the key is to just embrace it all on a personal level and to not get involved with all the commercial hoo hah. For me it is all about time together with family, special meals, decorating the house, giving and receiving presents, good films and the odd TV special. I dust down my 'Sinatra does Christmas CD, make the house all colourful and cozy, watch the joy on my daughter's face and anyway, it's probably the one time all year I can get my dad to smile.
You walk down the street on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day and just about every single person you encounter says Merry Christmas to you and does so with a big beam on their faces. I just embrace the fact that people are being nice to me, even if it is just for 1 or 2 days and every shop I go in I always give the server a big Happy Christmas, complete with a smile and I nearly always get a big smile and greeting back.
I love Christmas! Bring it on.
