From those stats I'm guessing Bolton's kids played the standard academy keep ball stuff that doesn't always equate well to lower league football. Wycombe would have just looked to bully them.

Apart from their takeover being suspended, they have also just sold another first team player to Hull.

And two of the 'adult' players are out injured. Pretty much the entire team apart from the keeper will be kids.

Bolton fans don't deserve this shit. It's outrageous that they've been allowed to get into this position. I've never known a season where 2 established clubs like Bury and Bolton are on the brink of going to the wall, and another one (us) was allowed to stray so close to expulsion. The FA / EFL are letting people down on a consistent basis. They're not fit for purpose.

Should the FA / EFL be responsible for stopping clubs from agreeing to transfer fees and wages they can’t afford, because that’s why these clubs are where they are.

Yes, they should. That's one of the reasons why FFP came in. But they need to do more with fit and proper owner test (an old argument, but true nonetheless) and have early warning systems in place to cull issues like these before they go too far. I do blame owners more than the EFL, but as they are appointed guardians of our game, they must do more.

Properly shocked it’s going ahead. Time will tell if I’ll be happy about, but I’ve got to be positive... surely we can’t lose this

We have to be careful as the Bolton Players will be trying to put themselves in the shop window. Especially as the League 1 window is still open, and especially against us (A club aiming for playoffs)

I'm really nervous about this one, a lot more worried than I was last Saturday. If we score the first goal then I think we will win the game.

Difficult game still but one we need to be taking maximum points from. Same side as Southend for me, bring Godden on as a sub in the last 30 or so and then make his starting debut against Exeter in the week.
Ease him in to the side and system but showing faith in what we have still. No need to dump anyone and make them feel redundant

How can this every happen in practice though? It can’t. Unless salary caps are brought it.

You can say you absolutely cannot spend more than you earn...based on last years earnings. Well when people get relegated they can still get themselves in a mess can’t they. You could chop their expenditure allowance when they get relegated...but then it’s a downward spiral isn’t it? And muppets on here are constantly screaming for the owners to “invest”.

I just don’t know what you think the EFL can or should do? What the fuck is a fit and proper owners test really? They aren’t psychic it’s not minority report

Don't think the hostile atmosphere from their fans will help the Bolton youngsters at all!!! Anybody else going by train?? Apparently the ground isn't close to the station

Only been to Bolton once - we won 5-1 I think with Dublin and Huckerby. Really liked the design of the stadium - it was one of the first of the 'new' bowl-style stadiums built.

I can see it being the same starting 11. Not sure whether Allen and Kastaneer are fit but if so it will be those 2 and Godden in on the bench.

Their fans focused on supporting the team last week. If anything they will be more supportive of the youngsters.

I've thought about this before and it can be done without salary capping. My proposal would work better with squad caps, but it's not entirely necessary.

You take the fixed/guaranteed revenue from TV/sponsors etc and every member of the squad gets a 'basic wage' from the FPP percentage of that (if they want they can do a 1st team/reserve/youth like pay grades in 'normal' jobs).

This is then supplemented by a season end 'bonus' based on the variable revenues like matchday revenues and ticket sales. This can then be divided up based on minutes played. (If a player is injured there could be a problem, but which could be negated somewhat by saying any signed off by the physio/doctor as injured gets 2x basic wage or whatever, like sick pay).

This system has so many advantages:
It prevents a club spending beyond their means (money for the end of season bonus would be 'ringfenced')
It makes a league more competitive as most players will be on roughly the same basic wage, but it'd stop decent players being hoovered up by the big teams to sit on the bench as they'd earn much less than if they were a first choice elsewhere, so the talent is spread out more evenly.
The good players that play the most would still be the top earners so no problem of the top players not earning more than lesser squad members
No limit on salaries other than what income the club can generate.
Mutual incentive for players and fans.
-Fans can't complain if players don't join as they're partially directly responsible for the pay the club can offer. More fans turn up = more revenue = higher wages that can be paid = more attractive club to better players = improved team.
-Players play well and team wins = more fans want to come = more revenue = players get paid more.
Big teams can't complain because as they raise more revenue in sponsors/advertising/prize money etc they can still pay more than other clubs. If they lose that advantage it's down to their own mismanagement.

Yeah I'd have thought the fans would give the youngsters a lot of leeway and be supportive of them during the game. Before and after there could be protests aimed at the board/administrator/the guy who's blocked the sale etc. But I'd really be amazed if they set on the youngsters even if we were pasting them.

Our fans would.

Apart from a few I think the vast majority of our fans if in their situation would see that it was a load of kids clearly not yet ready for that level forced to play and that by doing so they're partly responsible for keeping the club going in terms of fulfilling fixtures.

Apart from adge, who'd revel in saying just how shit our youngsters are and that if they were good enough they should be England regulars by now.
