Statement on behalf of Paul Appleton, joint administrator for Bolton Wanderers

t is with real regret and a deepening sense of frustration that we have been forced to postpone tomorrow's fixture against Doncaster Rovers.

Whilst the threat of further EFL sanctions is obvious, nothing can be allowed to impact on the welfare of such a young group of players. With so many senior players injured or unavailable, the squad has performed heroically and deserves so much credit.

But after consultation with the club's medical staff, it is obvious that to call on them for another match without an adequate break would be detrimental to both their welfare and development which cannot be allowed.

We were able to bring in reinforcements before the match against Coventry because the deal was so close to completion. Now, following recent events, the legal position of various parties has altered which means a delay in completion. In this situation, it is very difficult to attract available players to the club.

I will be discussing the implications with the EFL but in the meantime, I would call on all parties involved with the acquisition of the club and hotel to end this intolerable delay and secure once and for all the future of Bolton Wanderers.

Further details on reimbursement for any tickets sold for tomorrow's game will follow.

Im sure the ref will help them out.

Bit weird they can just decide they don't want to play even though they can field a team?

Do our starting 11 get a break after playing on Saturday?

More points should be taken if they are actively choosing now to play it, it's taking the piss now.

Bolton have postponed their league 1 game tomorrow due to fears of over-using young players SSN reporting

It should be forfeited rather than postponed.

What's to stop other teams start postponing it if key players are injured if they go unpunished?

Very true! They basically don’t want to field a team so the points should be forfeited, they should at least have a points deduction I think

Surely they have to forfeit, you can't just decide not to play. Its not a bunch of 13 and 14 year olds being asked to play.

We've all got sympathy with their situation but this seems to be taking the piss. If they're allowed to get away with this what happens if we're carrying a few injuries and Robins wants to postpone rather than throw some kids in?

It can’t be forfeited it’s against FA rules - it’s sensible but will attract greater sanctions

We get docked points and still play the game later in the season

So Bolton should be docked more points then?

Exactly my point. We can't just decide we aren't playing so why can they.

Remember when Middlesbrough decided not to play due to injuries/sickness in the PL?

Docked 3 pts, went down and we stayed up.

Exactly what I was just thinking about. The precedent has already been set. The only difference being Bolton have already been Docked points, albeit for completely different reasons, so they'll probably use that as en excuse not to dock them for this.

They've only been deducted 12 points though, I think teams have been deducted upto 30 points before in the past and they could yet be deducted points for failing to complete last season's fixture. Having said that even if they were given an extra 20 points I doubt they'd stay up so it seems a pointless exercise. If they (and Bury) do manage to complete the season I would expect points deductions for the start of next season in league 2.

All that happened was that Brentford were given the points.

That was different as the result didn’t impact any promotion or relegation so a default result was given

As well as Bury, EFL have given Bolton a deadline for Tuesday to complete a sale or face expulsion from the league. Sad state of affairs when 2 clubs in our league are facing these sort of sanctions and would hope the sale of these clubs are completed primarily for the sake of their fans and history of the clubs and also for the integrity of the league.

Question must be asked though, if the worst case scenario does happen, would the results from Bolton's first 5 games count for the league or the league would wipe them out and not recognise their results so far?

No they would not... 22 team league (if they both go) with 42 games. We just have had a mid season friendly.

I like that they are being creative about them resolving the issues and applying to play in league 2 if the worst comes to the worst. The results will just be expunged from the games they’ve played so we would gain slightly

They may remove them from this years competition. How long can it go on for? Bury are 5 games behind

Both teams will still be in this league this season as the EFL like someone else has said they haven't got the balls.

I think the time has come for Bolton and bury to be suspended from this years competition. Next season if they survive they Should be in l2 or non league. This is now bringing the competition into disrepute.

Out of the 2 clubs, I'd rather Bolton get expelled from the league, it will have far greater impact given they are a recent Premier League Team and Scudamore has been a driving force into pushing football where it is now, creating the massive financial gap, that has driven up wages, and made clubs gamble to reach or stay in the promised land. Sad for the fans though.

I think people are missing that it will be the administrator that will call time on Bolton this Wednesday. He cant find a deal to keep Bolton as a going concern so will be duty bound as an officer of the court to liquidate the company. It wont be the efl kicking them out as such because the company ceases to exist if liquidation is filed.

I see Bolton's take over bid has collapsed and they face liquidation. So what happens to the points already played for involving Bolton, and those yet to be played for?
