He's a bit hot and cold, but feel the pendulum if good weeks to bad weeks are swinging in his favour.. today his distribution was the issue rather than his defensive play, the full backs were more off colour today and let's face it, by hook or crook they've kept a clean sheet... again!

I noticed after one of Thomas' worst passes, there was a very audible groan from the crowd as he'd done it multiple times in quick succession. The Ifollow camera panned to Lampard who was applauding it and telling him to keep doing it (the harder passes not the poor passes I assume!).
He clearly knows a CB that can defend as well as Bobby may be slightly limited on the ball at times, but the pay off when he plays a midfield splitting pass is critical to our way of playing, no fear, keep trying it until it works. Props to Lampard and Bobby for sticking with it, it's working. If our defenders passing isn't perfect at least it tends to be forwards and wide, not messing about at the back.

Thought it was one of his weaker games in recent weeks if I’m honest. Him standing off before Rushworth made that save in the first half annoyed me. But the results speak for themselves, him and Kitching are playing at a high level right now.

I stated a few weeks ago for some reason fans notice thomas bad passes more than kitchings , truth is both of their long balls were hopeless yesterday .. but in their own half their passing was fine Screenshot_20251019_083643_Sofascore.jpg

The number of times the ball went out on the right when Thomas or Rushworth punted it over.
I was wondering why don't they put it down more towards the centre of the pitch?

The Cayman Islands.
Thomas is coming along nicely, It amazing what can happen when you get an ex prem defender breathing down your neck.

Id like to know why he walks away from the celebration at the end though in singers corner - I’ve noticed it a couple of times and today he watched on from the centre circle

Bobby Thomas he's shy a fuck but doesn't give a fuck, Bobby Thomas. 🤣

That's great insight tbf, very constructive point. A reminder that the player may be instructed to do something that we aren't aware of. They work on stuff all week and we only see the execution on match days.

It's a standard policy. We win possession, or it goes out of play and gives us a high press opportunity. They put it out and we have an MVE long throw. Teams imitate the best. It is what PSG do.

Football is correcting itself from all the piss arsing around. Frank is ahead of the curve while the likes of Russell Martin are dying on their arses.

You might get some pushback on this from some posters, but you're right. Pep has moved on from it too.

I think we're adaptable, we can play keep ball when we feel like it but essentially we're a chance creating machine from getting forward quick, playing percentage balls and having players in forward areas willing to fight for those balls. I think we're versatile and have a few strings to our bow tbf.

The point is to move the ball with purpose. If we're a few goals up and are slowing the game down sure, but at 0-0 or one goal in it, this pissing about from side to side in our own third of the pitch is actually a bigger threat to us than the opposition.

We've been playing balls over the top, connecting short passes, sometimes defenders have gone on mazy runs. It's better to watch and harder to defend against.

Players capable of getting good quality shots off from outside the box too.

He's still got a suicide pass or two in his locker but he's got a lot better I think by keeping it simple. Haven't seen lately the over selling of fiddling around between the back 4. Seems like they used to pass it around for 10 minutes before going over the half way line! Now keeping it relatively simple and back to Rushworth for a decent long ball when required. Rather lose possession in the other half than ours. Along with Kitch, Bobby is a good threat at set pieces too, perhaps another factor that is keeping the Wolf out of the fold.

Thomas doesn't get enough praise for his contributions since joining. Virtually ever present and has had to deal with a pretty unsettled defence at times including our dodgy keepers. He's definitely good enough to play for a promotion winning side.

The facts are we are keeping a lot more clean sheets and are cutting out the very stupid goals we were conceding. Grimes has a role in that, and we have a keeper who can make saves which helps. But also, Thomas and Kitching have been excellent.

I agree. The punts from Rushworth are quite effective with the way we play. His kicking is long and he generally gets it deep in to the opposition half. Whilst his accuracy is off, the distance isnt. And if one of our players doesnt get to the first ball, they're buzzing around for the 2nd. Or hunting in packs to win the possession back as high as possible for a quick turnover and in to the box!
