Probaly Chinese whispers! It more than likely started as "I'm bored. Hey look! Is that David Hasslehoff? The one the call "Hoff"? Man! It is! Think I'll throw a discus at him!"...... or words to that effect! :D

Normally i'd agree but these words came from a popular figure at the club and there were a few fans around at the time. It'll be interesting to see what other fans who were there have to say in due course...

yes was chatting to billy aswell he said deffo meetings on friday re the takeover.

was also chatting to the corrie killer who seems fairly confident a takeover is imminent as did scoop turner who i saw on me way out of the ground typing his match report so fingers crossed sisu may be out of the club in the next few weeks.

best hurry up cos i wanna get a season ticket!! aint giving the sisu parasites a penny tho, wud rather give hoffman a grand than any of them sisu cunts a penny.

You know - I keep looking at that starting team Scam - it don't look that bad.

That starting team with no-one sold from it and financial backing to strengthen it would look even better! Although I think Baker or even Thomas are ahead of Deegan for the Leicester game in AT's thinking, on match fitness alone. The little knock has probably put Deegan back a week or 2.

I only had a quick peek on here before bed in case there was any breaking news. Brinners post has got me all excited now-that's 3 reasonably in the know people saying a takeover is likely, plus Elliotts comments in the other thread. I really hope something comes of it! My positive conspiracy theory about Sammy wanting to stay because he's been promised a good contract when the takeover happens suddenly looks feasible too ;)

Ah good so when the takeover happens i can start a Hoffman out thread! I dont want him to fail with his promises for the clubs wellbeing but i would find it amusing if he did and all these fans who hang on his every word start to see he isnt all he says he is going to be and then begin criticising the new board.

Jeez fanta, do you go in the away end at the Ricoh?

Hoff is a life long Sky Blue fan, are you putting him down before he even has a go..........?

well without naming names it was a certain gentleman that has a role in the casino pre-match...maybe he'd just had one too many to drink ;)

I was also talking to Billy last Friday and he told me that the takeover was still a distinct possibility in the near future, he also told me Freddie Sheppherd was part of the consotium but he wouldn't tell me the other people, i had no reason to not believe him.

interesting doesn't freddy have links with Northen rock? And that's why Newcastle are sponsored by them?? Hoffs links to the rock would tie in then!

You know the more that little snippets are leaked the less confident I am that a deal will be done.

The people involved in negotiating the deal should just get on and get done or walk away not be playing PR games
I might well be wrong but all the information bites coming from the proposed new consortium smack to me of building their own confidence in the deal & support rather than anything substantial
People like JE and GH should know better than to discuss these matters in the middle of a football crowd if indeed they were
These leaks are likely to harden attitudes between the two groups that matter in getting it done (SISU & New consortium) rather than help
Unless GH & co have actually put together a suitably worded/presented formal offer SISU actually have nothing significant to discuss and it could be a meeting to simply discuss tactics or even a normal board meeting
If the offer has not been improved above the reported one from last week then it is very likely to be a short meeting if that is actually the purpose of the meeting

Sorry but doing business via the press or terraces is not in my opinion the best way to get things done.

Just want it sorted out quickly one way or other

Seem's a bit convienient that a high profile man like JE would stand amongst Cov fans and make "loose" phone calls don't you think?
I would dearly love it all to be true, but the more they get the fans buzzing about a takeover just helps put pressure on SISU.

Everyone keeps saying about pressure on SISU but they arent actually here they are enscounced in a plush office in London, the pressure is on the Board who actually do not have the final say. SISU are money men interested in financial return and frankly I doubt that the fans are having much effect right now on SISU themselves. The real pressure will come if they receive an offer that is close to what they want to get out. With the season fast approaching, income beginning to increase, costs (especially wages) having been reduced etc .....some of the day to day financial pressures are easing ..... i am not sure that SISU are feeling as pressured as folk like to think

As always, OSB58 you talk a lot of sense.

I question these 'snippets' and the way they are reportedly leaked, it's all a bit unprofessional. I doubt tha GH would conduct himself in this manner, given the business circles that he operates within, and the need for strict confidentiality. Also, when entering into discussions between companies (or similar) it is normal to sign non-disclosure agreements, to enable confidential information to be exchanged between the parties.

I cannot see how any of this 'alleged behaviour' would be helpful to a buyout consortium, even less can I see such senior people standing at a local football match and spouting off in earshot of uncle Tom cobley and all!!

I would love out club to get this sorted as quickly as possible, and to have serious football people in charge, with funds available to help the team and buy a share of the Ricoh. We all would, probably, but on reality it is likely to be less fulfilling and a somewhat drawn out affair, stretching into the period between the two transfer windows .
Fingers crossed tho', PUSBs

OSB, i wrote as you did! Just not as elliquent ;)

When i said putting pressure on, i meant i do not believe the hype in the whispers going around and if they are true it is just a poor attempt to stir the fans up into putting pressure on SISU to do something....kinda like bluffing at poker, Hoff may have weak hand but if we all start shouting and causing a stir SISU may say okay lets do something.

Something like that anyhow :D

Post #16: OSB, I have to totally agree with you, that's why a couple of my posts about the subject have been a bit "tongue-in-cheek". I don't believe anyone such as Joe Eliott would discuss matters as important as a board meeting re. a takeover bid or anything business-wise, whilst standing among fans in the terraces at Hinkley. He would have taken his call and walked away to somewhere private, surely?

Always makes me laugh that they feel the need to take "very important take over talks" phone call during the match.

He was probabily ringing the speaking clock to see how long we had to go until half time, to hold on to that 1-0 lead

Trouble is the strength in depth behind that eleven doesn't look clever. Plenty of future potential (if they don't get sold before we get the benefit of them......) but they're not ready for the first team yet.

Plus of those players listed in Scam's XI the bulk of them have had long periods out injured over the last couple of years so what is the likelihood that they all stay fit past the end of August?

Reckon they might be stirring, Nick! As far as Hoff is concerned I'm sure it comes down to a strong personal dislike for a few of them. It would appear that the rivalry between the two camps is pretty intense. JE & GH wouldn't have been eyeing the dugout with binoculars on Sat if they were all pally. But if there's a meeting on Friday, and GH says they're willing to at least listen (and how could they not given how much money they're losing?), maybe somethings afoot.

Now i m not a sisu fan, but they are here absorbing the losses, the so called consortium are blowing a lot of hot air as it stands

Hate to be the pessimist, but it does seem an awful lot like history repeating:

- Disliked board in place
- Club losing so much money can't carry on like they are
- Unknown investors promising vague promises of "investment" without specific figures on what will be spent on players
- Pressure on fans to back the new board because "the club can't go on without them"

I'm under no illusions about any group taking over and Shepherd's involvement doesn't exactly fill me with confidence either.

Look, we can only go on what we know about any new owners. They've promised to buy the first half of the ground immediately, and strenthen the squad (we know the present owners won't do this anytime soon, and have lied about doing this to maximise season ticket sales). "Where's the proof !?" you cry...well how exactly do you expect them to prove anything at this stage? The proof of Hoffmans pudding will be in the eating.

As to those who say this consortium is making all the same promises as SISU did, so what's to guarantee they won't break them? Yeah, that'd work well for them, wouldn't it? They'd lose a huge wad of cash into a bottomless pit, whilst gaining nothing in return. Just like SISU now. Why would they do that? I honestly can't see anyone planning to take the club off SISU only to proceed to make exactly the same mistakes. They certainly won't be working with a "month-to-month" budget like SISU-there will be a 3-5 year plan. Not like the mysterious "Premiership in 2 years" Brody plan, either; this one will actually exist, shock!

Gary Hoffman is a Coventry City fan. Why did he resign from the board again? Because the board were continuously acting in what he saw as contrary to CCFC's interests. In particular, the flogging of players against the managers wishes-culminating in the Thomas loan to Liverpool just as we found ourselves with a gaping hole in centre-mid. I think I have onehelluva lot more in common with him and Joe as far as how I think the club should be run.

Still having trouble working out the "oh, poor SISU" brigade. Venture capitalists ask for no symapthy and will get none from me. I understand peoples right to an opinion; I just really have no idea how anyone could possibly prefer more of this against the possibility of some hope. Just what has Gary Hoffnan done to p you all off?!? :thinking about:

Nothing against hoff, hope he pulls something off but as it stands nothing has happened and it is the current incumbents keeping us going
