I used to love the Grand National years ago, always having a flutter and joining in the sweepstake at work, but now, after hearing about so many horse deaths at Aintree over the years, I refuse to place a bet on any horse race, especially the National.
I'm a massive animal lover and it pains me to hear about it. Sadly, I don't believe it will be banned any time soon. Too much money at stake. 😔

But you're going the right way about ending it. The fewer people bet on it the less money there is, literally, at stake.

It really is time to call it a day

It seems so antiquated now regardless of the cruelty aspect

The worry is these big days out seem to attract as many young people as old

I've just checked the records. 88 horses have died because of the Grand National! Far too many! 😡

Yeah I saw that more young people are going to it these days. Loads more companies seem to be hosting events at races as well.

Great event enjoyed by millions.
Bit scary at times, but so are lots of sports.

They were playing it in the Anecdote after the match and honestly, it just made me feel queasy. My heart went into my mouth every time they jumped a fence

Same here. Never really been a regular to have a flutter on the horses - Been to the occasional stag day/birthday trips to meets in the 1990's and up until Cheltenham 2 years ago. Bigger factor for me was the social side as opposed to the opportunity to win money.
We used to have a regular Christmas work do that involved the dogs but I jacked that in about 20 years ago when I discovered just how cruel that industry is.
Never really associated horse racing on a par (GN aside)
But I will never either attend or bet otherwise on the horses ever again.
Fixed odds acca with dumb footballers is fair game tho.
