Coventry City left-back Blair Adams has urged the fans to keep up their 'terrific support' after the 3-2 loss to Leyton Orient.

The Sky Blues failed to progress in the Capital One Cup despite a spirited second-half performance from ten men City.

Carl Baker and Franck Moussa both netted for Steven Pressley's side but Kevin Lisbie's late header sent Orient through to the next round of the competition.

Despite the loss, the travelling support applauded their team at the final whistle for their efforts, and Adams believes the City support is going to be vital this season.

The 21-year old said: "The fans were superb. They really got behind the side throughout the game and even with a 3-2 defeat, they were still singing until the final whistle. It was terrific.

"I think they were proud of their team. We played really well and they realised that. They did the same on Saturday and they are going to be crucial this season.

"Hopefully, they will keep coming to the games and backing us all the way. I am sure we will keep the good performances coming and the results will follow."

City have lost their opening two games of the 2013/14 League One season and face Bristol City in their first home game on Sunday.

Adams believes there has been plenty of positives to take forward into Sunday's game and that the results will come.

He added: "We dominated for long periods against Orient, even when we went down to ten men. We have played two really good sides, and even though we haven't picked up a win yet, there are plenty of positives.

"I think we are in really good shape which was proven when we went down to ten men and you couldn't tell the difference between the two sides.

"Bristol have just come down from the Championship so it will be a difficult game for us but I think we can win.

"It is a tough start but the squad are learning all the time and with the fans backing us, I think we will do well this season."

You'll get all the support away Mr Adams, but sorry #nopm for home games, simples.

the club really are trying the guilt trip on fans, i bet nearly all the players feel like we do, we should be playing at home in the Ricoh but the players are told or asked to spout this shit to make us feel sorry for the owners moving us to northampton because they had no choice :jerkit:

There's not really much of an agenda here - footballer would like people to show up.

He's been told to say this, the players are not stupid, they will know why we are not turning up for the 'home games. It isn't rocket science.

Correct, this is just spin and its amazing this comes on the back of SP's comments. At the end of the day SISU pay their wages and if they have been advised to get the "fans are important etc etc" line in at interviews you cannot say no.

We know that the players understand our frustration and I am sure what they want to say is the fans will be crucial at all away games.

Dear Blair

We support you, but we want you back at the Ricoh so we can really get behind you. A lot of us including myself are only going to away games.

Some of us cannot get to Northampton, some of us struggle on Sundays, some of us make last minute decisions to walk up, some of us have only a few hours not a whole day and lastly a lot of us believe that Coventry City should play in Coventry in a stadium like the Ricoh, not in an inferior stadium of league 1 standard (short or long term).

Hopefully you will understand, but appreciate why you can't really say what you think.

Regards

We dominated large parts of games under Andy Thorn as well! Sadly allof that is irrelevant if you cannot keep the ball out of the net! There has never been a question of not supporting the team, however this is almost word for word the same BS that SP came out with. Are they basically saying it will be impossible to win games without support? If so does that ultimately mean that if they lose it is the fans fault?

Whilst I appreciate he cannot come out and criticise (well he could if he coulod guarantee a job at another football club!) but this all sounds far too much like sisu trying to tug at the pursestrings of the fans (I'd say heart strings, but not entirely sure if the ice queen understands the concept of a heart). I wish players would simply stay out of the politicis of all this, and just get on with playing the best they can! Footballers aren't well known for their literary capabilities, just do your talking with your feet!

Whilst I wish the players all the best and obviously hold them in no way responsible for all this, whether they feel supported or not is way down my list of ccfc priorities right now.

Don;t players say exactly the same rent-a-statement each week, every week of the football season?

not the 1st time someone called BLAIR has been trying to get people onside for something that is fundamentally wrong and improper

Guilt trip statements twisted into creating more home support. The longer we spend away from the Ricoh people will find something better to do with their Saturdays...god help us if they actually enjoy the alternative.
