Looks like we completely ignored the first warning to make sure we picked up the runners on a cross. Can’t see it as I’ve watched it on a tiny screen but is it Doyle who lost Gallagher both times? Nice move for their goal though.

Fadz for me although there were two unmarked at the back post

Yep, I noticed that too, we didn't learn from the first time that Gallagher got a free header on goal.
We should of got a lot closer, sooner, a really poor goal to conceed.
We had 5 defenders, and 2 defensive midfielders, and yet still couldn't stop the crosses or pick up their strikers.

It is Fadz though this is where BNC comes in, if he's AWOL we're overloaded and Fadz is looking at two players. Bidwell too slow to get out to stop the cross.
To be fair Bidwell has having to cover centre half. As we got overloaded on the right due to Cuffy being well out of position and slow to get back. They caught us on the break really well

1) Cuffy is virtually the highest player pressing the left back. Who splits the attack and midfield press easily as we're out of position

2) The ball quickly goes to their player on the left causing an overload, where Cuffy should be. McNally has to press, and Fadz is pulled well out of position to cover. Bidwell on the far side is having to track their player coming in at the back otherwise it leaves Doyle 2v1

3) ball is played across the park a long way out to the crosser. Again Bidwell is in a difficult position as he and Doyle are making 2 players causing a 3v2 overload due to Fadz and McNally being pulled out of position

4) Bidwell then has to close the ball down which leaves 3 players unmarked, Doyle has to take a couple of steps back to cover that space but doesn't. Cuffy only just in the frame now ambling back.

5) Bidwell can't get out in time to really close down the cross. Due to all of the above. Gallagher and Bereton are unmarked at this point int he box. Cuffy still the highest of all defenders and midfielders.

6) cross comes in Gallagher unmarked, Fadz just can't get the right side of him, McNally left 2 v 1. Cuffy still hasn't reached the 18 yard box.

Blackburn caught us out of shape, over committed and really exploited how stretched we had become. It's a very good goal from their perspective, but really naive from us.

Don’t think Cuffey was out of position, when there was a break in play you could see Robins had told the wingbacks to press high.

Yeah, unfair to blame BNC, he can't be in 2 places at once. It was a tactical decision to adopt the high press. High risk, high reward. It nearly worked for us on a couple of occasions, forcing turnovers high up the pitch but we failed to capitalise. Blackburn played through the press well on a few occasions though & this is what happens.

I'm not blaming him, just explaining how that had made Fadz go out of position, why Bidwell was slow to get out, and why the player was virtually unmarked.

You can get away with Wingbacks pressing that high when we play the box as you have 4 midfielders getting back and covering. With 2 strikers (neither appear in any of the defensive screen shots) you don't have that extra cover when wingbacks are so far out of position.

As I said, I think it was a really good goal from Blackburn's perspective, we were niave as the press wasn't really on.

Absolutely. It's ridiculous and unfair. A couple of posters would blame him even if he wasn't on the pitch

Whatever happened around him, it was Fadz‘s man and he lost him.
