My experience of being on the picket line doesn't correlate with people's views on coventry live for example ..

Coventry live , a place on Facebook where people laugh about homelessness , dead refugees, covid deaths etc , or real people in the street that are 95% supportive from what I've seen with my own eyes .

I know which one il take as a gauge of actual opinion

Andrew walster , coventry Council director ..

Have a look at all the fingers he's got in other businesses , ask yourself how many of these ventures were set up using council tax payers money and ask yourself where all the profits are ?

This is the person the bin men are up against

Director of council paid Tom White waste

Director of Coombe Abbey Hotel

Director of a private company who is In charge of the new council paid tip at the back of London Road

Im generally on your side here, but you’re veering well into tinfoil hat territory here. The council own Tom White Waste, they bought it in 2020, and they own Coombe as well. It’s fairly standard to have a board member at a company you own or have a stake in.

You'd have to ask why Tom White waste hasn't changed to become part of CCC , is it because they can pay themselves bonuses on the side ? Where does the profit go was also my question ?
Is there any evidence the money is being put back into the public purse ?
It was purchased with taxpayers money

Not really tin foil hat is it to question these things

Tom White waste has been described this week as a private company by walster , so is taxpayers money being used to purchase businesses to make people extra money on the side at the expense of the taxpayer , and why is he a director of every single one ?

From Tom White accounts. I think the line of complaint that the drivers should be paid at least the same as new starters is the one to stick with.

Nice to see the council having £20 million stuck away for a rainy day.

Yeah I agree about the point that somebody new will get a few grand more than somebody already doing the exact same job.

Like the video yesterday, once you start diverting and going on about other stuff it gets away from that point.

A lot of councils own private companies and the company retains private status - the purchase was a very transparent one and the aim to make a return on the recycled waste the company does.

Seems the company they've contracted to do the work while the strike is on are completely incapable. No sign of any collections today and doesn't seem like anywhere around here has been collected.

CCC are advertising it as them being nearly caught up, without mentioning they've not touched the other 2 services recycling and garden waste for almost 2 months and its still not penned in to be started again

Figures of 1 8 million pound losses being banded around , whilst refusing to engage and end the strike to save the money ... it's all pride at this point

On the local Facebook group, which is obsessed with bin collections at the best of time, the number of people defending the councils stance is dropping by the day and everyone else is just saying to pay up and get it sorted.

There was supposed to be a collection a couple of weeks ago and they were in the area but loads of roads got missed, council just said leave the bins out and collections will catch up but they never did.

Today should have been the first collection since mid December and they've skipped the entire area.

It's the new edgy experience, wondering if tomorrow I'll get my bin emptied, or if I can continue to have it and all the others in the street sit there...

No , I am happy with my pension .

Still feel that's not reason enough to keep us on gash pay however

What makes your pension better than a job that could be 10k more a year?

There are shed loads of class 2 jobs around, surely if people are struggling to pay their families they can just walk into a new driving job on more money?

My pension will be better than those jobs no doubt about it ... I'd be surprised if it wasn't.

The difference of let's say 270,000 pound over 27 years work is probably something I can't make up in salary however

Can you not still pay into it if you move jobs or is it council specific?

I'm just trying to get my head around it, I don't know much about pensions.

Public sector pensions tend to be significantly better than private and entirely separate. Though I might change my mind once I’ve read the email that just dropped about changes to my teachers pension.

I could pay into a private pension I suppose , but then why would I work 60 hours a week to match a pension I would get working 37

That's on the basis of putting the extra 10k earnings in a private pot

Most Jobs work on a basis of whatever you put in (upto a certain % cap) the company will match .. is that correct ?

Not just you I guess but if others can't feed their families, why wouldn't they go straight to a job for 10k more a year?

I'm confused. If you are getting better benefits, full sick pay, better pension from the council then why are temps wages being compared?

Also mate , there are many many HGV jobs available, mostly paying more money than the council .. if every driver left CCC they would find it incredibly hard to fill all the vacancies on the current rate and they would have to raise the wages ( like they are doing for these agency drivers now that are filling in )
