Was there a reason for it? Anything to do with that illness?

Would have thought he would have been loaned out a lot sooner other than the shady Rangers loan?

Maybe i'm not sure? I think he possibly fell out with Pardew at first, but i can't remember, but it could have in fact been the illness.

I agree it is odd.

This is Alan Pardew, talking after Bigi's first season:

Alan Pardew has told Gael Bigirimana he has already passed the test of his first big season at Newcastle United with flying colours.
The teenager has been one of the highlights of the campaign for the Magpies this term after arriving from Coventry City for a nominal fee.
Battling Bigi’s attitude has been fantastic this term.
In a season in which he was expected to play mainly in the development team, he has ended up playing in 19 matches in all competitions and netting his first goal at senior level with a great strike against Wigan Athletic in the 3-0 win last year.
Pardew told the Chronicle: “He is the bright spark of that underbelly which is under the first team.
“In and around the first team, he has done terrific.
“We are chuffed with him but we cannot expect him to play the next 17 games for us.”

Watched him live for the first time on Sunday. He was almost the only player providing movement off the ball for Fleck and Lameiras in the first half. With the ball he either passed wide (usually forward) or tried to play in Armstrong or Thomas. Saw enough to suggest he's worth at least another season, but only if we get him on a free.

How much of his time at Newcastle was he injured?

If he gets fit (and stays fit), let's see what the magical TM can do with him before completely writing him off. I'd rather have someone like him with a few years to go, than a 30-something journeyman.

i trust TM knowledge of a player more than most posters with all due respect. i said bigi had a so so season but he showed flashes of why TM wants him. if a 2nd year with us gets him bck to that level consistently hes worth bringing back

If he accepts league one wages
Should be signed clearly has the attributes just needs a manager to decide one position for him and develop him in that role

How old is he now? Is he really better than what we already have. I think central midfield is fine. We need wide players. And of course centre backs and strikers

He is 22 years of age. I like Bigi as a player, he has an excellent range of passing, when he passes the ball there is an added zip in it, compared to other players, and he moves effortlessly into space as soon as he has released it. I struggle to see how anybody does not see that. However Mowbray wants him to add a bit more to his game, getting around the pitch, disrupting the opposition, being a shield for the back line, so if Mowbray has seen enough of that to want to sign Bigi then I will be more than happy.

The natural ability is better than most that we have
TM just needs to sort out his application of that ability (footballing brain)

I would take him if on a free, has got better every game. He can play defence splitting passes, has good vision and good first touch. He has definitely improved his work ethic, energy levels and desire to win the ball back under Mowbray. He is still young and will improve. If given the opportunity, I could see him being considerably better than Fleck is currently...

Agree with you. There are some clueless bods on here, technically Bigi is very good. It's just decision making and application he misses.

Yes, just try to remember it next season when you scream 'get it forward' and the front players are all standing like statues.

From what others have said on here his time at Newcastle has set him up for life. Apparently he's marrying a girl from his church in Cov making it pretty likely he wants to stay in the city even if a championship club does want him.

I thought Bigi was ok to a point but always seemed to fade away during the game. Didn't think he linked with Fleck at all, again like Johnson if cheap worth a one year punt for me. Can and has played full back at times for Newcastle U21s.

And that often is a problem with us no movement ahead of the ball. That is when it starts going sides ways and backwards and the crowd getting frustrated.

he's a good player - just needs to be nurtured. Amazing players rarely just turn up on your doorstep in league one

What utter tripe. Is expect a PROFESSIONAL footballer to be able to pass. Moving into space isn't the skill, it's making space when there isn't any, losing your man. The things you've highlighted are having little or no effect on our games. Sideways Sammy could pass but what good did it do. I like a bigi, looks a good lad and obviously cares but he isn't good enough.
