Has to be having a decent keeper we can rely on for me... I know they have made a few mistakes at the back but it just seems more solid. He seems to pull off all the "super saves" burge did without the calamity...

Agree it’s been a big difference although I think having three at the back has also helped. He was excellent again yesterday but must admit I get nervous when they insist on playing from the back

And the pitch is perfect to how we play, no surprise that we have such a great home record

Which, at the time, I thought was strangely underused today.

At 1-1, I thought MR may have thrown on one of Giles & Hiwula... but seemed happy to keep it as they were...

...Turns out he was right

Brought in better players last summer. The loans are a a bit better than last year, remember how many chances Thomas missed? But the acquisitions are a huge improvement, and there were more of them. Marosi, Dabo, McF, Godden, Allen, Pask. and in effect Rose v Mason, Ogogo, Brown, Baka and Hiwula. Not one of last year's is a regular starter and two have left.

A stronger, more creative midfield....18/19 goals scored/game =1.17, 19/20 =1.42
Also stronger goalkeeper/defence...18/19 goals conceded/game =1.17, 19/20 1.0

Marosi could be up there with Player of the season.

Having a keeper like that means the defence, can play, which means midfield can play etc.

This is the best football consistently I have ever seen from a Coventry City team.

I think we actually created more chances last year but we're very wasteful.
Would like to see the stats but them you get into the argument what constitutes a chance etc.

...to which I would add, that if you have no wingers, but two very good (for L 1) attacking full backs and a surfeit of good central defenders, then 3-4-2-1 is a good formation. It just took too long to work it out (people on here were saying it for a while).

I gave the benefit of the team creating more chance to the midfield, purely because all of our strikers have at some point this season been slated

We draws games where we’d usually lose, and we win games we’d usually draw. That’s the big change.

I noticed after Max scored yesterday that the players celebrations didn't seem quite as wild as some of the late goals we scored earlier in the season.
We're they tired or did they expect to win?
Great mindset to have if they did

Stronger in every department. Reaping the benefits of having a manager with a long term vision having a few years to build it up. Fantastic to see

Playing as a team/squad is key and in a system the players are comfortable in.

Don't think we really have a STAND OUT PLAYER...Ie like a Toney.

Equally we don't really have a weak link. Seasons gone by could pick out 2/3 positions where we were covering over the cracks.

There’s no difference ffs. Abject performances, the players are shit, the manager needs to go, the table is upside down and the earth is flat..

I always feel the best managers are the ones who can change a team cyclically to improve. So far so good under these constraints.

Better formation

3 at back allows us to bring ball out to feet now

And sonetimes thats up to halfway line which allows our box 4 to operate entirly in opposition half sometimes

We had 20 points after the first 10 games playing with 4 at the back though. Don't forget that decent unbeaten run at beginning of season.

The difference this season has been Marosi unbelievably good recruitment. The new goal keeping coach has been great recruitment for the club and I’ve heard he was the one who recommended and recruited both Gk’s. Marosi seems a much better keeper than he was at Doncaster. The difference in quality and standards has been amazing. Getting Marko and Ben to the club deserves credit. He’s made a massive difference since Oggy left.

I highly doubt he recommended them or recruited them as you say. He was the Wolves U23s GK coach so I don’t see how he’d have the time to extensively watch two League One goalkeepers

First post criticising the old goalkeeping coach and highly praising the new one. Hmmm

My intention wasn’t to blame Oggy! He was a great servant to the club. But we can’t deny the difference. Marosi is a great Gk anyway but you can see the difference from last season and this one.

I didn’t mean it to sound like I was criticising Oggy I apologise if it sounds like that. My wording should of been better. Since Oggy has left there has been a difference in goalkeeping. Marosi is a better keeper than Burge but the new coach has done a good job. I can’t comment on him watching the 2 extensively but I’ve heard he had big part in recommending them and getting them to the club.

Let’s stop the Oggy love in and work on facts. It was time for Oggy to step aside regardless of being a legend within the club.

Goalkeeping is a totally different art now to when Oggy was playing. Back then the only use of feet was to launch the ball as high and far as possible up to the strikers.

Today it is to play almost as a sweeper, as well as shot stopping. No wonder Oggy couldn’t help previous keepers improve. It’s only natural a younger, more modern thinking coach will do better in today’s world simply because the way the role of a keeper has evolved.

Anyway, back to Marosi...excellent, excellent signing. He breeds confidence to all around him. On occasions he makes you cover your eyes with his confidence on the ball, but by and large a brilliant piece of business getting him in.

Better keeper, better recruitment, stronger squad depth, confidence, a good start, better pitch, more than one system, more pace, more height.
