To save the same old debate that's surface hundreds of times on here; we don't know.

What I do think - however - is that if it falls to ruin, it's a shame for our City

Others will be looking

There will be other interested parties looking at buying it. How about putting a roof on and making it a large national Ice Rink? A wembley for the Ice Hockey? Must be cheaper than building from scratch and ideally positioned!

A roof will cost millions upon millions will never happen. Concerts in the uk are a summer only occasion.

If we are not there I would never set foot in the place again. ACL won't have a penny of me thanks.

psgm1 knocked up an estimate of throwing on a roof and the corresponding lighting, came to about £4.50 in the end.

of course we're all assuming some sort of fancy retractable roof, surely there must be a cheap temporary option?

It has to be retractable. You wouldn't want a permanent roof as that will make less summer concerts. The air conditioning units alone to endure air filtration would cost a fortune. The current roof structure also would have to be taken apart and rebuilt. ACL would have to loan a fortune to build it. Never going to happen.

How about letting the local youth football play their finals on it, like they did for one year only.

At least for one weekend of the year it can be used for footy.

It was built as a stadium for the football club but the rent was too high and the revenues it generates goes elsewhere.
Who the fuck allowed this to happen?????

The Wimbledon roof cost £20M. ,It wouldn't have to be as sophisticated as that, something more like the Millennium Stadium.

Thought someone said that ACL had other sporting clubs interested in playing at the Ricoh.

No idea what will happen to it but we are the owners to some degree as most of us are Coventry rate payers.

Not even if it were announced that Marillion were to reform with Fish and perform a one-off rendition of Grendel at the Ricoh Arena ONLY ?:pointlaugh:

Mind you there's more chance of SISU & ACL 'reforming' than that happening so I think you're safe.

No bank will give ACL funds to put a roof on the stadium as they are classed as a bad business risk! Even the council would not support that type of money

I was thinking just a few hours ago about how sad it is that it will be sitting empty on the first afternoon of the season. Really is starting to hit home now. Insert sad face smiley here..

Incredible, isn't it? Few beers in the pub before the game, stop off in the casino; cheeky bet on the roulette table. In to soak up the atmosphere in the sun. First few games in shirt sleeves....

Now it's Six-feckin-fields. Simply beyond comprehension

White elephant?

Maybe temporarily. ACL will be down £400,000. SISU will be down much more than this a year. This would have to go on for years until plans of a new ground could be drawn up....once a site could be found. Planning permission would be needed. Funds would have to be raised. Timmy hasn't got the funds to do it yet. That is even if there are plans for a new stadium. Can't see them being able to do another Wimbledon on us.

ACL should be able to cover £400,000 from events they will be able to hold. The grass could even be taken up. Then as soon as SISU give up on their plans of getting the Ricoh on the cheap we could move forward. We could be sold. We could even get liquidated although the chances are we won't be....even if they try to do it for spite.

The ground will always be there for us. It could even happen much quicker than any of us would dare to hope. What good would building a 30m stadium do for them when they have alienated the vast majority of us fans?
