Best Winger in the League (9 Viewers)

I saw a post on X asking why Esse wasn’t playing, and the response was pretty overwhelming - Sakamoto is simply the better player. Some even said he’s the best right winger in the league.

Honestly, I’m struggling to think of many better. Who is actually above him at this level? Do some people dismiss him because he goes about it differently to the more 'natural' touchline hugging pacy wingers?

Not sure about the great right winger in the league. He's got 3 assists and 4 goals.

Whittaker for example has 11 goals 5 assists
Fatawu 8 goals 7 assists
Manhoeff at Stoke 5 goals 3 assists

Fatawu is the best winger in the league easily. Possibly even just the best player generally despite playing for those complete duds. Will get a big move in the summer. Shout out to Philogene and I really liked what I saw of Brooks too.
Sakamoto is great though, a really fun watch when on form and an obvious fan favourite. On the other side too, EMC is a class act and is probably better than Sakamoto overall, although not as fun.

Agree on Fatawu however I would argue it’s a really poor league for attacking talent this year. There aren’t many that you’d look at should you go up that you think could make the step up

Esse’s antics in dangerous areas would’ve been a recipe for disaster vs Boro or Sheff Utd
They would, but when he came on v Boro, he'd obviously been told after Oxford as he was really disciplined. I know he scored 2 in 2, but that cameo at Boro was more impressive to me that a young lad can take on info and play for the team not himself. If he keeps listening and learning, then I wouldn't mind him on a permanent next season.

The way the commentators talk when the six fingered mutants play it has to be 16 year old Jeremy Monga ( I think that’s his full name) and it may come as a surprise as they mention it every few seconds he is 16.

Sakamoto is back in form since Esse came in. Esse's game time gave Sakamoto a rest, and maybe thats as important as Esse's playing contribution so far.

It also means we have cover, and can rest Sakamoto if we are comfortably in front.

Also the competition for his place will have an impact.

He's better in DEFENCE than Esse maybe? So it's match-specific?? If we'd hit a 2-goal lead Esse would have come on??? Given more time he'll play the system better and they will rotate more????
Yeah that's why Tats has been trusted in this tricky run, I'm sure Esse and even Yang might get some game time in games we might be expected to dominate possession

Thought the lad for Sheff Utd RW was decent. Not sure Saka is the best RW but he’s better than Esse who isn’t ready to start at this level.

We should sign Fatawu in the summer for next season, Min and Esse we'll go back to their parent clubs.

I wouldn’t sign any wingers from this division TBH. I’m not sure I’d sign any players full stop. Much rather we looked at players that might make it than those that have tried and failed like Clarke.

His work rate is unmatched & once he has the beating of a LB he can be a nightmare, but I think he lacks the goal threat of a Fatawu or Whittaker IMO. Watching the highlights back from Wednesday, he had 3 decent chances in the 2nd half and maybe should have converted 1 of them.

I've been pretty underwhelmed by Esse to be honest. I said in another thread the other day, clearly very talented but his lack of experience sticks out like a sore thumb. His decision making on the ball in particular is something he desperately needs to work on.

Sakamoto isn't the best winger in the league but FL certainly gets the best out of him. His work rate both on and off the ball is unmatched in this league IMO.

Tats is not the best winger in the league, but that's fine (has to be Fatawu).
Tats's big bonus is that he not only plays right wing, but also covers at right back too.
No right winger in the Championship works harder that Tats...guaranteed.
Good as he is, you won't see Fatawu tackling back on the edge of his penalty area, like Tats would.

If you’re a right back, you’d have Sakamoto in front of you, over any other winger in this league.

There was a spell in the second half on Wednesday where Milan got taken into the centre chasing a player. Before it even became an issue Tats had slotted in at right back.

I don’t think there is a better winger in terms of both the defensive side and attacking side combined.

First chance he did as well as he could, third wasn't much of chance at all. Second, he should have passed to MvE who was overlapping and on his own.
