What has been your favourite TV series so far this year? I'm going to give some reviews on the series I've watched this year and hopefully some good recommendations are put down in this thread so I have more shows to look out for. Please give a review on some TV series you have watched this year.

Here are some of my'n:

So far this year I have watched the 3rd series of Spartacus (Spartacus: Vengeance) Sky1 which is based on the historical event of the slaves rising against Rome with Spartacus being the rebel leader, fantastic series 10/10.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1442449/

I have also watched "The Walking Dead" season 2 on the FX channel which is directed by Shawshank Redemption director Frank Darabont's which is based on a graphic novel about zombies. Great series but there could but some more zombie scenes would make the show better imo 8/10
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1520211/

Currently watchin series 2 of "Game of Thrones" I will write a small review on this thread when I've finished watching it.

Homeland, Game of Thrones.

The books for GoT are just pure brilliance so looking forward to the rest of the show, just a shame we have to wait a full year.

Walking dead best series on tele by far

Agree.

And disagree with La La La. It is all the better for not having more zombies in my opinion and the series continuing this drip-feed effect. This all cranks up the tension as we all await the inevitable and it also aids to propel the disintergration aspect of the society and relationships within the group as it all unravels before your very eyes and they helplessly wait for the next attack and encounter.

This all creates a pressure cooker effect for the piece and when things do eventually come to any sort of climax it has all be simmering and brewing for so long that that climax is all the more powerful and stunning as a result. The Sophia thing was beautifully realised and played out.

At the end of the day, it isn't about the zombies, it is about the humans and how they cope, interract and deal with issues of morality and try to re-build a broken society. The Walking Dead of the title actually refers to the human survivors of the story and not the zombies.

I like it just the way it is. The more zombies, the more formulaic it would all become and it would all lose steam really quickly and become dull and repetitive. This show is all about the slow-burn and all the better for it.

You can almost smell the sweat and tension.

Spot on Otis,a lot of people say more zombies but how I see it is as a more realistic view on how it would be if this were to happen.
It does have an excellent mix,the walker in the well was brilliant.

One more vote for Walking Dead btw

Exactly, I liked how they played out the whole Sophia angle and a lot really didnt think she would come wandering out of the barn. My favourite part of that was the build up with Shane and some others wanting to take them out and not agreeinmg with Ricks methods yet not one of them could finish the job.

Got a couple of episodes left too watch but its probably the only "current" show which really sucks me in while watching, something I have not had since LOST and 24.

I also watch the Mentalist pretty formulaic but enjoyable none the less, suffered slightly with network intervention at the end of the last series and the start of this one but its getting back on track.

Grimm is a decent watch wint be everyones cup of tea and its along the lines of Buffy and Angel so I would imagine that would turn some people off straight away.

Alcatraz, enjoyed the 1st 2 episodes, got 2 more to watch but not got its teeth into me yet, very similar to Lost in terms of the way its shot and incidental music, so I am 1/2 expecting them to end up shifting the Rock.....

Touch, very good so far very clever idea enjoying it lots.

American Horror, got 3 episodes left, enjoyed it, not sure how far they can take it, the younger version of the maid is pure filth!!

Also trying to catch up with Fringe, just watched the 1st series and cant understand why I didnt watch it from its time of release. Really enjoying it and Anna Torv has something about her.

I haven't got Sky Atlantic so haven't seen Boardwalk Empire or Game of Thrones, so cannot comment, but The Walking Dead is excellent and I eagerly await the next series.

Andrew Lincoln is brilliant as the tortured Rick character, as he wrestles with his conscience and tries to do the right thing, but is forever confronted by decisions of morality, truth and justice, while trying to stay strong for his family and the group as a whole.

Hmmmm, Scottie ...... are you me?:eek::eek::wave::wave:

Loved Lost and 24 and really like Fringe and also feel there is something about Anna Torv and I also enjoyed American Horror too!

Do you like Dexter?

Or should I just ask myself that question? ;)

Damn. I was going to say The Walking Dead. Can't wait for the third series in Autumn. The third series has far more action than the previous 2 and the transaction between series 2 and 3 has little mystery, unlike the gap between series one and two.

Not seen Walking Dead but sounds like I should give it a go. Thought Sparticus was fantastic! Reminded me of the City a small group winning against all the odds! Sparticus! Sparticus! Sparticus!

Was expecting it to be a bit more fast paced from here on in. They are now back outside and exposed and away from the comforts of the near normal reality and seclusion of the farm.

Yeah I loved lost and 24 too, and the soprano's. Got the first series of the west wing still in the cellophane. My missus don't like any of those programmes so i have to take any opportunities I can to watch them.

Some git on GMK gave the plot away to Homeland, so while i am enjoying it I know exactly what is going to happen!!

There's no way on god's earth I am going to divulge what happens in this new series of Dexter, having seen it all online previously. Would be completely wrong of me to talk about Harrison's death and Debra's lost of sight after that car crash.

I simply wouldn't do it and you can be rest assured I will keep my knowledge to myself. The guy who told of Homeland's outcome should have done the same!!!

I also heard about some characters returning, Daryls brother is making a return from the shopping mall scene in season 1, The guy that saves Rick in episode 1 is also making a return. Should be intresting to see how things pan out in the high security prison which there going to fortify and apparently be in there for at least 2 seasons.

According to the comics too, Carl becomes some full on badass. I don't like him as a character in series 2 though. He was quite annoying.

He doesn't seem like the kind of character who would become a bad ass and I agree he is an annoying character.

I also dislike Lori, and hated the way she reacted about the Rick & Shane incident, I hope a walker gets hold of her soon. :jerkit:

I don't like Andrea. I was hoping she would die. She's so naive and ignorant in some cases.

Can't get any British terrestrial channels, so great for me as no Eastenders or Corry.

Getting hooked on Touch, Alcatraz & Grimm.

Best thing this year so far was the 2nd series of Mad Dogs, only 4 episodes in each series.

Cant stand most of the american stuff at all :(

American shows get bigger budgets and are aired world wide, allot of there highest rated shows are very success full over here because there simply on another level to what are shows have to offer.

Also two of the most highly rated shows at the moment both have British actors in there main cast such as Sean Bean in Game of Thrones and Andrew Lincoln who plays the main role in the walking dead as "Rck"

Would say that Lori is the one character I don't like in WD and I do find her annoying. Can't help but feel little sympathy for her character. She brings no empathy to the role at all.

Agreed! wouldn't mind seeing her fuck off next season like Dale in this...
