We've got to assume that if he has hit the triggers for a permanent move, it's because MR wants him to stay. Surly if we didn't want him, we simply wouldn't have let him play the 20th game or whatever the trigger was. We don't actually know even if he is staying or not yet.

Ben's becoming like a Council Tax demand to some on here... If we ignore him... Everything will be okay... Until that inevitable bailiff visit!

You might have heard of this thing that happens to footballers called an ‘injury’. Look it up if you need more info.

My guess of the contractual agreement with Arsenal regarding Ben Sheaf is:

* An initial loan fee paid pre-season, but offset against a final transfer payment if other clauses are achieved.
* The clauses to include CCFC retaining Championship status - tick!
* The number of games started by player in 20-21 season. As he started in over half our games ....Tick!
* The number of appearances from the bench - Given he played most games before he was injured....Tick!

His last game in the past season was away against Luton on 21st March, when he came on from the bench.

I'm hoping that he will develop into a real asset to the team due to the work the coaching staff will be putting in. The one thing as supporters we must avoid is heavy criticism of him, as this would be counterproductive to our clubs prospects next season.

I thought we’d already signed him tbh. To suggest he is not near the starting 11 is daft. He clearly featured prominently throughout the season.
I would expect him to become an integral part of the side. My dream midfield is him, Walsh, Hamer and O’hare (with Eccles waiting in the wings), would be one of the best young midfields in the championship.

2 separate injuries.

He came off at half-time vs Forest in Feb because of a hamstring injury, the April one was his hip whilst playing for the U23s.

He was back in the squad after one game following the hamstring injury. I like Sheaf but why are we pretending that the only reason he wasn’t starting was injury when in reality we just preferred James, Kelly and Hamer

Was a bit of both. He wasn't 100% after his injury. In honesty would probably consider it a mediocre season but think there's a decent player in there.

I like Sheaf I’m in the minority that is happy he’s signing but to call someone a loon because they said he isn’t in our starting 11 is ridiculous

He was misquoted, he actually said Sheaf, “just isn’t near our starting 11”...which is wide of the mark I’d say.

I can see you've already been put right so I don't need to.

He also played 2nd most minutes of any CM I believe.

Everyone was either injured or shit,

I think he's a good league one player, may progress may not, he's tidy player, but loves a fuck up, I think he's expensive at 750k, but he's signing/signed, so just gotta get on with it. I'd be gutted if we miss out on either James or Walsh as we had to complete this deal.

Because of other people being injured you ‘loon’

So where do you see him fitting in if we had Hamer, James, Kelly all fit this season?

Let’s say Hamer leaves and we sign Walsh... where do you see him fitting in then? You loon

I wouldn't know how the transfer is structured, could it be that we already have a sizeable investment or was it a loan then 750k

From what I hear the lad had a chronic back problem that wasn't preventing him playing but was affecting his mobility
He went back to Arsenal for treatment which has hopefully cleared things up
With a bit of luck he'll be fully fit now and raring to go in pre-season

He's ok, but likes to give the ball away in dangerous positions, and slows the game down too much for my liking, I dont rate him as much as Kelly or James, and I'd sooner put the money towards Liam Walsh's wages, and tbh, I think Eccles will do just as good job as Sheaf given time.
I'm not saying he's a bad player, he's ok, and he's still young and can improve, but 750k could be better spent imho.

He's a talented young player who did well in his first season at this level. Not everyone we sign needs to be immediately stand out. We are buying potential here, pretty much like O'Hare last season.

But O'hare had a massive impact last season.
So much so that we were all calling for him to be signed.
I don't think many would be too disappointed if we dropped our interest in Sheaf and pursued Walsh for example.

Sheaf is a huge upgrade in technical ability than Kelly & £750k (if true) for a young first team player on his way up is nothing in the grand scheme. If you want the finished article, stick another zero on that. Given time I think he'll be excellent for us.

Also, it's funny how the giving ball away in dangerous areas criticism isn't labelled at Hamer. He gave the ball away many times in far more dangerous positions, including inside our own penalty area, but that's just glossed over by many.

That's what I find funny about the criticism against Sheaf.

His critics almost try and claim he was the only player in the team to consistently lose the ball/give it away in dangerous areas.

Hamer has been criticized for giving the ball away in dodgy areas tbf.
But Hamer is also twice the talent of Sheaf and capable of being a match winner on his day.

Out of interest, would you rather buy Sheaf, or drop our interest in him and use some of the money to tempt Liam Walsh?

McFadz is the other main culprit who gives the ball away in dangerous areas and ideally I’d like to drop him to the bench this season if we can find someone better

Criticised once or twice in a match thread sure but it's not held against him as a stigma like it is with Sheaf.

re: Walsh, why is it one or the other? Especially as they play completely different roles.
You wouldn't play Walsh & Hamer as the double pivot surely?

It's probably one or the other due to our budget restrictions, and 750k being a big fee for us in recent times.
For me, I'd sooner we sign Walsh, he just looked a better player and a better fit for us.
And as I've said, Eccles looks like he could develop into the player we need to fill the Sheaf roll, and could save us the 750k in the long run.
