I’m sure they are in deep shit with regards to FFP so they may not be in any position to make an offer.

Wasn’t he linked with Villa? They also need to cut costs.

He should stay and continue to develop at a higher level next season.

According to latest accounts, they're inside FFP and are debt free.

Derby County reveal financial results for last season

"Derby again fell inside the Financial Fair Play (FFP) threshold. Championship clubs can lose up to £13m in a year or £39m over a three-year period."

Sounds like typical FA bollocks.

How can losses be FFP!

I've just read through Agent Sam's twitter, and it's fair to say he's been incredibly, and in our case depressingly, accurate with most of his twats.

Are the tweets in advance of the transfer being all but complete/breaking the news?

Most of these twitter accounts put a teeet out well after the transfer is in the public domain to look like they’re more credible than they are.

You could easily argue Bayliss has had a better first season than Madders did. More goals in less games but in a league lower. If we are selling I would definitely want a similar deal but with a higher sell on.

I can't see it being a done deal just yet. The fact he went on holiday straight away and wasn't on the bus added fuel to the rumors but it looks like a couple of other youth players went as well.

Realistically if derby offer 1.75 million we won't turn it down. There might have been a deal agreed weeks ago

We are in a much stronger position though. I’d love to keep him but he is going right to the top

Just to keep things in perspective, and this isn't taking things away from Bayliss and what he's achieved, but he's performing at League 2 standard, he's not a world beater (yet). Secondly, we're a League 2 club, not a Championship (now Premiership) club backed by a billionaire who also owns an NFL franchise or a man who owned an F1 team. Basing what our players are worth compared to who was sold elsewhere is flawed because we're a club that wants to break even, and rely on player sales to make up some of the shortfalls in our budget. Meanwhile, these Championship clubs have far more financial backing than ourselves so, frankly, can push up prices on their unproven youngsters.

1. We are a League 1 side
2. He hasn't looked out of place against Premier League teams last season either. The guy is destined for the upper echelons...
3. With the Maddison deal brewing we are hopefully in a position where we don't have to roll over and have a side tickle our tummy for a season. We can call the shots for a change. If a championship side wants him then they need to be paying over the odds. If a PL side wants him then we need a season long loan back, along with the same again if we bink another promotion (can dream can't I!)

Another example - up to £4m for a player who had played 1 game for Fulham.

Everton sign teenager Dennis Adeniran from Fulham

Josh Bowler - £1.5m up front rising to £4.25m - 1 game for QPR.

Josh Bowler completes £4.25m move to Everton from QPR

Bayliss has played 30 games. We should be looking for a minimum of £2m up front.

Everton obviously need to do a bit of work on their academy all they seem to do is buy players for it

The stupid wages offered to the likes of Thomas, Stevenson etc. Just to be loaned out immediately or stifled playing in the buying clubs U23s just makes it an impossible situation for the club....

Remember bassala sambou? Zero league appearances for us, but Everton allegedly paying him 3k per week over 3 years to play in their under 23s.....whats a club to do?

So, I reckon bayliss will end up at Leicester and Madisson is moving up to Everton.....

Bayliss should look at players like him who have disappeared before moving on

It’s a tricky one for the players be like Delle Alli play 100 games in league one and then make the big move to the first team or like him sit in the youth and get cut after three years to go to somewhere like Tranmere but with the earlier cash incentive

Saying he's worth £500k is well below the mark imo. Derby fans seem to think we rejected £1.2m in January for him and with promotion and potential incoming from Maddison we're in a lot stronger position this time around. Derby would be a better move for him as he'll be around the first team and get to learn a thing or two from Lampard but, if he's going to leave, I'd like him to go to Leicester. As a Premier League club we can demand more and also request a loan back and a go on George Thomas for the season.

Norwich is a good fit for Bayliss we could become their feeder club like Southampton to Liverpool.

I wouldn’t want to see Thomas come back as he wouldn’t get in unless he has improved a lot I thought he was very limited

I think Thomas would be perfect in Robins' 4231. His a wide playing goal scorer and improved immensely when Robins came in.

McNulty
Thomas - Andreu - Jones

That's mouth watering.

Really? I wouldn't say he'd be a shoe in by any means but he'd definitely add quality to the squad. Given we only have 2 wingers on our books I'd say someone of Thomas' ilk would play a crucial role in team.

He is hiding those goals well according to wiki 5 in 42 games for us (probably has some cup goals as well)

He isn’t going to come here in league one to be a squad player and he isn’t good enough to guarantee a starting place

Personally I could see him starting over Shipley. Not every game mind you but he'd by no means simply be a squad player.

Last season in all competitions he played 2,516 minutes and scored 9 goals for us. That's just over a goal every 3 games. Consider that it was his breakout season and he needed time to adjust to the mens game then it's good enough for me, particularly for a wide player.

1. How many L1 games has Bayliss played? 0. Unless you want to count MK Dons, then 1 (even though they got relegated).
2. He played very well v Stoke, but against Brighton, our midfield was dominated (as you'd expect). He undoubtedly has bags of potential and talent, but at the minute, he's just that.
3. I agree, if we do sell, hopefully, it's at an overinflated price because we're not really in a position where we need to sell. This said, with talk of 'back-to-back promotions', I'd justify selling him if it meant getting 2-4 transfer targets, especially if we can get Bayliss loaned back to us.

The issue with Shipley is that LM isn't his natural position and I could see him getting caught out next season against better opponents. Although he's had a good season if there are better players out there in that position, assuming their wages/fee are within our budget, then sign them up! So, Shipley either has to step up or start warming up the bench.

Shipley has improved massively. This was his first season in the team and added some goals (5 ish?) to his game and is only 20 years old. Ability wise he is different style of course to Bayliss, but I can't believe some of you are ready to write off one of our own kids so quickly and yet 'big up' but about the unknown and those playing at a lower level. I'd be looking to start in August with as many of that first XI who started at Wembley and are still here. They've earned the right (imo) to keep the shirt until proven otherwise.

Yep I don’t understand the criticism of Shipley! What more could he have possibly done this season?
He’s got a wand of a left foot, reads the game well, has a strong range of passing, gets in advanced positions and gives the side really good balance. I look forward to seeing more of him next season.

He's made 1 more start than Bayliss, 7 more appearances all-in-all, yet they have the same amount of goals and if I were to guess, probably more assists too. Shipley is our most underrated player by quite some distance.

anything less than 3m and we are morons

he might not be a 3m player right now but we all can see his potential and he will be worth alot more within a year or 2

he will do fine in league 1, will only up his value

Not that it matters because there's no chance of him coming here, but Thomas would walk into our starting lineup

I will have to disagree he had a good six months here and has been playing under 23’s since. Can’t see where he would play to get in when Jones is back

Ironically when Everton bought Ade Lookman their up and coming Academy lad Nathan Holland thought that meant he'd been overlooked so he joined West Ham
He was on the fringe of the first team there last season when he did his ACL but he's on the way back and should feature in their pre-season
This seems to be the way with Premier League teams, they prefer to buy other club's young players instead of trusting their own

With the standard of the Championship increasing, and the success of young players like Maddison and Sessegnon (and others), I can see the Championship being a preferred destination for young players in the coming years. For young players, the Premiership is actually not that good a destination because first-team opportunities are so rare.

I don't see like that, why would you turn down all that money, most fringe youth players will be loaned out somewhere anyway, like the Championship.
