Scored 71 goals in 18 games , what the actual fuck

Their best ever season to this point , miles ahead of the rest.

They do have a cracking side , is the league that poor or are they just that good , arsenal swept them aside in the CL

Watching Hertha Berlin vs Schalke in Bundesliga 2 atm, decent game with a bumper crowd. The top division is struggling a bit from being raided by EPL sides though.

Spoke to a lad today who attended an ac milan game over the festive period , said it was like watching a league 1 game .

Shocked me tbh

I think the quality follows where the money is.

Italy has been without decent money for 3 decades nearly and its clearly trickled down to the quality!

Does the 51% fan owned element impact the quality of the league? Probably quite a lot but still a good thing all in all as they haven't sold their soul. Bayern do need some proper competition though.

So what is it, historical funding that's keeping them aloft?

Agree. La Liga is another shit show as well. About 3 wins between relegation zone and a European place.

The Prem is really the only show in town where the quality is spread "fairly" evenly.

"Fairly" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there.

Serie a for all it's money troubles has been the second best league the last few years and that looks likely to continue this year coefficient wise.

As for bundelsiga. Nothing has drastically changed from when nagelsman and kovac were in charge at Bayern in terms of the overall league. It's just kompany is much better

Harry kane helps of course. Insane numbers.

The teams at the bottom of the table in Serie A would probably be midtable to playoffs in the Championship, IMO. The league overall is great to watch though, better than the PL entertainment wise.

As per our previous conversations - that will still depend on how well he does in the CL. Bayern generally operate by weakening the rest of the league by aggressively poaching the competition

The stats prove he's not just doing a standard job. It's as simple as that

He is clearly a good manager. And anyone with brains could see that. It's very telling the kompany haters said rob Edwards was great

Again, we’ll see - I don’t think he’s a bad manager. But he’s not doing anything unexpected.

funnily you mention Rob Edwards though - I dont think Kompany would do any different with that wolves team

Need a win v 'Vardy's Cremonese (on Monday?) Hellas are struggling big time this season - what's happened to them?

But he is doesing something unexpected

Breaking records show it is not expected. It's not just a standard job anyone could do at Bayern etc.

Surely you can admit that?

I have no issue with Edward's btw and rotting for wolves to pick up some wins to make it interesting. But to your point he wouldn't be doing this same job at Bayern do you agree?

Again as before that’s a nuanced question. Do think he’d be winning the league? Yes I do.

when you have one of the elite forwards in the world up top, the goals tend to flow

that being said there is a different skill set required for elite teams and in terms of elite board and fans. That will be a well known name. Something which Kompany has over Edwards.

I'm not looking for an argument but I'll say this one last time

He is breaking records at Bayern. That alone is proof that he isn't just doing a standard job

He is literally doing much better than your average manager does at Bayern

That's my only point

When you have the best players in the league by a mile, you can play like that quite happily. That wasn't ever up for debate.

Anyone who is half decent is flogged for profit with minimal investment. It was going to catch up with them sooner or later. I will be there tomorrow evening to shout some abuse at Vardy!

Then why don't they break these records every year?

Why didn't kovac? Or negaelsman? Or ancelotti?

I feel like I've had this conversation with you Christ knows how many times, but possession based football is a good bet when you have a far better side than anyone else and/or have a world class squad. Other sides aren't good enough to punish it. When you do it with one of the weakest squads in the league, you get ripped apart and we've seen that so many times in the Prem.

In years gone by Klopp was at Dortmund, Xabi Alonso broke records at Leverkusen, you sometimes get brilliant managers at other clubs in the division along with top class players there before Bayern pinch them. For example Dortmund had Klopp managing a team with Lewandowski, Goetze, Hummels etc. Bayern dismantled the side and Klopp moved on.

So your saying it's just a really poor year in the bundelsiga and nothing to do with kompany?

Listened to that German comic earlier, cant remember his name. He has adopted Wycombe as his team. Said he saw Real Madrid vs Seville in December and he said there was zero atmosphere. Too corporate. Think we will find the PL will be a little like that when/if we go up.

How have I ignored it?

Your saying some years there are good teams and managers to rival Bayern and sometimes Bayern gut them and they go. So you are saying this year is a down year.

Should be noted kompany beat Alonso's Leverkusen to the title easily last year. A manager you just cited as bringing great competitiveness to the league.

I’d argue that Leverkusen massively overachieved that season - through sheer brilliance and to Kompany’s credit - a poor Bayern year.

Bayern reacted by spending 150m and flexed their muscles. Leverkusen never had the capital to compete with that.

Kompany isn’t a terrible manager by all means, he does what is expected. But to say he’s an elite manager would be disingenuous
