This performance against Spurs showed more than enough of what he is capable of.

Work rate and intensity, movement, technical ability all incredible. Think this was the last time we saw him hit those levels however.

It's clear to see from that clip that Bassette has the raw ability to be a very good player. IMO I don't think he is FL's type of character, and he has gone backwards massively since MR went.
What he needed was a run of games and some good mentoring and coaching, either here or a carefully chosen loan spell somewhere.

You only have to look at what has happened with Rudoni since FL joined to see why Bassette hasn't developed in a similar way.
In Lampard's own words he has enjoyed one-to-one working with Rudoni, who has benefitted massively and responded well.
As far as I know FL has made no such comments about Bassette, who I think would also benefit from that kind of attention. Whether he has had that opportunity, or whether FL has the patience or the desire to give him that kind of attention I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised if Bassette feels left out and wants away. Personally I think to lose Bassette would be a massive mistake.

Having been optimistic about Bassette, after what we've seen I'm not sure he has got what it takes to develop into a decent striker.
He isn't keen to get in the box, can't really beat a player, doesn't shoot well. His movement is ok, pace decent but that isn't enough imo.

What FL wants from his players is clearly a desire to do what’s necessary to improve their game. The players who buy into that noticeably improve, those who don’t he has no time for.

It’s absolutely fair enough.

I always thought Bassette might eventually be made into a wide forward, and would be more suited there.
From the Tottenham highlights, he was quite influential from that position and even got an assist.

As others have mentioned though, I think that game might have been his last decent performance and since then his cameos have been poor. He always looks like he's trying too much

That’s quite a scenario to paint. It’s interesting that even if remotely accurate you seem to be blaming the management for not making the player feel special rather than the player

For tactical reasons.

Yeah, he’s tactically out of his depth and tactically rightfully going elsewhere.

No I'm not blaming anyone, including the manager, just pointing out that different players have possibly had different treatment, that's really in FL's own words, either actual or coded, and I was careful not to state anything as fact, as some posters on here do. It's common sense that a player who shows massive enthusiasm to learn will earn more time with a mentor. I'm just pointing what I THINK would have worked better with Bassette, whom I think will become a great player with the right coaching and mentoring.

He strikes me as Mario Balotelli with a lot less talent

Agree, need to keep him, but a loan wfor 6 months would make a lot of sense. Loan to league 1 or a European team and I think Bassette scores on a regular basis and that could be transformative for his development. Getting cameos for us is not the right situation for him.

Lampard has made similar comments about him a few times now, sounds like an ongoing issue that Bassette isn’t doing anything to change.

Some players have all the makings but just don't click at certain clubs ..same as some managers. Look at Vik, couldn't start at Brighton and didn't light things up at Swansea, then it worked out with us. Mainly due to the coaching change and a regular start.

His performances against Spurs and Sheffield United last season clearly shows there is a player there despite some of the ridiculously over the top comments on here. If he can't get in front of Simms and BTA though, then there is a problem and it is best to let him go.

I think if he goes to Holland or Belgium on loan then he might well tear it up and as such I agree with those that have posted saying we shouldn't agree to a deal where a loan can be made permanent, as the only way the buying club takes that option is if he has been successful and is worth more than the agreed fee.

Can’t see how Bassette gets game time ahead of Wright, Simms, BTA. Loan is sensible

If he was left out of the squad last night and the reports are true that a move isn't imminent then we're not going to be in a strong position to be making demands. Otoh he may just have taken a knock

I think it was after the Stoke game at home that it showed Robins hugging him & looking like he was saying 'keep your head up' kinda thing & Bassette nodding but looking dejected

Random for Lampard to say it was tactical for him but then say others had knocks.

For him to say that you'd have to assume he knows Bassette is on the way out.

I fear some level of disagreement has been going on but you never know.

I'm for getting him out on loan for a season, with a half decent L1 outfit, ideally.

If he can't hold a place in a league one team, either because of attitude or consistency, then he needs to move elsewhere.

If he can find his feet and some confidence though, I think he could still be a decent signing.
