I've been the opposite, Otis. I've always liked him and thought he's had a bit of a raw deal. He was probably the best player for me against Bristol City and I thought he was good again today. Long may he be in the side.
Anybody else think he could be a love child of Tim Fisher?*
*Not that I think he ACTUALLY is, but he could be.
Good performance today though!

He did play quite well against Bristol too, yes.
He really needs a ball winning midfielder around him to thrive I feel. He's definitely got the skill, there can be no doubt about that.

Always rated him. Has so much more natural ability than most players at this level.
However he seems to be the type of player you build a team around.
He was signed with that intention. Then the manager who had plans for him was sacked.
I don't think any manager from that point wanted to play in a way that would bring the best out of him.
It seems he may have convinced SP that he is worth the effort

I've always thought he had something to offer. Just wish he had a bit more pace. Not asking him to compete with Usain Bolt, but to have something in his tank. When you have a midfield of him and Fleck, you may have talented passers, but we usually end up going backwards when we could be trying to counter attack.

Would agree with that. The type of player you build a team around and you really need to make sure you have the right players around him to allow him to do what he does best.

Yes and you need a tenacious tackler to win the ball then him and fleck to deliver to Noble and someone with pace. Maybe Jackson?

If you're playing two upfront I don't think you can play Fleck and Barton in the same team, if you want your tenacious player then one of Fleck/Barton have to play wide and Fleck was dreadful out there today.

There's always one who's 'always rated' the player who comes back into the team after a lengthy spell in the reserves
.Seriously though, I think many have always thought he could become a decent player and now with something to prove he is playing well.
Let's hope he keeps it up.

I've always liked him and it's great to see him showing a return to form. Massive credit to him, as Carsley pointed out, for staying fit and working hard in training when he was bombed out of the squad. He is slow and looks ponderous but has cracking technical ability. It's that word "potential" again; if we can get him playing like he was as a youngster at PNE we'll have a real asset rather than a liability on our hands. The best managers get hold of those players with ability who have been in a downward spiral and get them back playing to their potential, lets see if Pressley can do it with him.

It pains me to say but he did have a decent game today and I have always been one of his fiercest critics.
If he improves on his pace and is prepared to get stuck in he may eventually win me over.
However I feel that the serious injury sustained whilst at Preston may have left a lasting effect on his ability to commit himself more.

I've always felt sorry for him. A great player, down on his luck after a near career ending injury. Its good to see him getting stuck in and being given another chance. Myself and a couple of friends were singing his name pretty much all game. Im also thinking of making a 'Barton Fan Club' t-shirt hahaha. Top player. Good job today

He was the least effective of the midfield four - its just he has set the benchmark for competency to an all time low. There is zero expectation whenever he plays.

No he was mediocre last week and I would assume worse at Oldham.
He did ok in one game when he scored for half an hour before dying off a couple of years ago.
I don't know why you indulge in this curious obsession with individuals like Barton and dear beloved "Cody". He had a good 45 minutes but cost a fee and has been taking a wage under false pretences for 2 years. To me that requires a lot more payback than a good 45 minutes.

Nearly a goal every second game at the moment in our league and would fit into our team perfectly alongside Frank. I would have cody back at the moment over a few of our other strikers.
