How long until we go to a defensive config that has 3CB at the heart of it?

I'm surprised we didn't against Arsenal if I'm honest, with the incomings you'd have to think Manchester City away would see a back 3/5...

I am all for a return of 3 CB and the box midfield, certainly away from home. We have the personnel.

We could also just cut out basic mistakes at the back, they are a big worry.

We might as well try it against Man City, as nothing to lose. Keep it compact and play on the counter like Hull.

I wanted to see us play in a different way against Arsenal. Like proper blast the ball out of the ground if it crossed the halfway line, but unfortunately we barely got a touch of the ball to allow that to happen.

I’m hoping for a back 5 against Man City. I would potentially sacrifice wide players to have the two big lads up front too and go full Allardyce.

I think it is worth consideration. Fans often say no plan B. Well it’s not all about rotating personnel but formations and tactics as well. I think it depends on the opposition and sometimes what stage the game is at. But if it can give us an advantage or protect us in seeing out a game, it should be considered.

I think so, especially away from home against established teams.

If Grines plays it would be a back 4/6 as he is always fiddling around between the centre backs

I think a return to the box midfield would Grimes out tbh, if you compare and contrast our current squad you'd have the two deeper midfielders consisting of Hamer playing the Hamer role, he really is less effective starting further up. Onyeka or Yirenky in the Sheaf role, further forward Rudoni would be a sort of O'Hare alike. Sakamoto could take the other forward birth but Yirenkyi would actually probably do a job.

Parklife.

If we’re going 5 at the back, I’d prefer Lati to stay over Kitching and Wolf. Predominantly as he’s more versatile.

Wolf fluking himself into contention is madness.

On paper MVE is a perfect RWB but from memory he’s never excelled in that position, as he relies on the overlap a winger provides.

Massive positive of us doing it is we can utilise the abundance of creativity we have in the central midfield areas. Albeit I fear it may signal the end for Grimes unless we get him playing 10 yards further forward.

Yirenyki Onyeka/Grimes
Hamer/Torp Rudoni

Or

Yirenyki/Onyeka Grimes/Hamer/Torp
Rudoni
Awoniyi Cherif/Simms (?)

Amazing Frank didn't consider this for Arsenal
