Having had 24 hours to wait to read the 50% of utter drivel in this thread it’s mental that after we’ve lost one game in 13 that we have people arrogant enough to think they are the f**king messiah when it comes to tactics and team selection. Firstly, look at the table and name one team that would trade places with us….. Secondly, go back to football manager and your constant reloading of saved games to allow you to win to big up your ego you absolute d**kheads.

Calm down mate, I don't think saying Grimes and Allen doesn't work as a two makes anyone a dickhead.

We developing a worrying tendency to go too long and too often, it's horrible to watch. Really played to their strengths on Friday.

Also noticed last few games there is no desire to defend or track back from the front 4.
The best teams attackers bust a gut to get back and defend when they lose the ball.

I saw none of that last couple of games.

Saka is exempt from this criticism.

It's been an experimental phase for us which by and large has been an incredible success.
To know how to play it and consistently reap reward from it is a great asset.
Let's not rubbish it or mothball it yet.

Being far more direct is the biggest improvement in how we play this year

That's not true about all of the front 4.
BTA and Saka put a shift in.

He said he knew at half time that we weren't on it, but waited until Wrexham equalised and had their tails up until changing things.

To be honest I think most people feared the worst once the team sheet was put out.
3 changes in defence were forced, but the midfield looked very lightweight compared to Wrexhams. Their narrow midfield of Sheaf, James and O'brien were always going to gain control over Allen and Grimes, a blind man could see that before kick off, and it was no suprise to see us fail to cut out the supply to Moore.

We should of matched them in the middle of the park by starting with Torp, Grimes and Eccles. Its easy to be wise after the event, but I did express my concerns before kick off on the match thread. Im just amazed that we started with that line up, especially after our lucky escape of the Watford game.

We didn’t really have another option in terms of set up due to injuries, illness, and suspension

Think Lampard saying he could see it coming at HT is key. Makes me think he would’ve changed it but couldn’t as he’s managing the minutes of those coming back at the start of a 3-game week

Last time we started Eccles twice in a 3-game week he got injured again during the second game. Torp also hadn’t played in the last game due to injury

This was not an option

Hindsight is great isn’t it. It’s an odd thing to do to change a winning formula and options were limited.

We need to mix it up and I'm sure Lampard would agree. A long ball is the often the easy option and not the right one. Far too many times we're just giving the opponents the ball back. Rushworth's kicking just isn't accurate enough and our forwards don't hold the ball up too well either.

Me? I knew that he woiuld have to play being on loan. I recognised that Rushworth would take time to settle down and I hoped that he would and that's just what happened, even Lampard commented on it last week! I wanted an experienced keeper over a kid on loan. Rushworth will be a bit unhappy that Hürzeler chose that game to watch him I reckon, it wasn't his best in recent games.

Agree, just catching up on this thread and the meltdown

At the beginning of the season If someone had told me that after 13 games we would have lost just one game and be top of the league, I'd be saying, you're having a laugh.

And if someone showed me the fixture list alongside that statement, I'd probably have correctly guessed the L

You wanted Wilson and he is a much worse goal keeper. Imagine if Wilson had bene in goal this season.

How many times over the years have we lost to weaker teams.

Eccles came back from a long injury, made 2 starts, and was out for another 3 weeks - he’s clearly being managed

Torp couldn’t make the bench against Watford and has always started when fit. If you think that benching him was a tactical decision then it’s not even worth debating you

We’re already threadbare and starting players coming back from injury will only make things worse

Worse!!!! Worse than losing our unbeaten record!! Worse than getting run ragged by a 33 year old has been centre forward. Worse than being out played by a poor Wrexham side!

Do you honestly believe that if he could go back 2 days he wouldn't pick a different side, regardless of who was being "managed"?
If you honestly believe Lampard got his tactics right then there's no helping you.

Here's a clue, .... the score line says it all.

In August I'd have taken his Nan!

If I was the opposition mangers I'd be looking to put a big, ugly bastard on him from set pieces and put the ball on his head. I'm surprised nobody's really done it yet but the quality of some of our play hasn't really given them a chance. I'm sure we'll see that, maybe Robins will try it...

If we lose Eccles and/or Torp for longer it will be worse as we head into a busy Nov/Dec before we can address the lack of depth in Jan. We’ve got as many games as we’ve played already this season until we’ll see a signing

Nobody thinks the tactics were right - not sure where you’ve got that from. The point is our options were to play players not ready to start or go with what got us through in the previous few games, so the decision is understandable
