Away games (1 Viewer)

Would be interested in views on this.

Have picked up from a few people that some City fans would like to go to away games but are put off by probably having to stand and/or transport issues. Anyone else hearing the same and if so, any ideas for what could be done? Would it be feasible to have the first row (or 2, 3 rows?) designated as no standing? Maybe set up some sort of car share scheme???

Not sure why you would sit down at an away game really.
If so, just go to the front.

Are you sure this not just the view of those (sixfields types) who got themselves up to travel away for the Sheffield game as their first and only away game of the season? Many more people sitting down at Sheffield than you usually see away, and which makes me think they were not regular away supporters and instead were there only to see off the last game of the season. (In fact, hadn't seen that many sitting down for a number of seasons).

I quite understand that older types will want - and even need - to sit, and indeed I attend away games with one such person. But, myself, I get put off at way games by seeing fit and young enough persons sit dispassionately throughout as if they were on an evening out at the local theatre. :slap:

The idea of having the few rows designated as non-standing sounds great in theory - I had to move back nearly 10 rows at Sheffield so that I could stand. However, since nobody is supposed to stand anyway, how would it be implemented?

Its not always possible to get to the front though.

A female friend of mine used to be a regular at the Ricoh and loved it, but doesn't like attending away games because of the standing issue.

Under normal circumstances I would agree with you and say if you don't like away games then don't go.

However for many of us away games are now the only chance we have to see the team. All spectrums of supporters now need to be made welcome at away games. From the Prawn sandwich brigade to the West Enders.

Shouldn't fans have a choice, seating and standing? As long as the numbers for each area are controlled you won't get another Hillsborough.

Always happy to give people a lift. Two of my cars are Grand Voyagers. So room for six more. Can even watch a CCFC video on the way to get everyone in the mood. I do the majority of the M6 in England to get to games. Problem is I work shifts which includes a lot of weekends. And will not go to Northampton if we are still there. Distance no problem.

Will have to see what next season brings.

U know quite a few ppl who don't go due to having to Stand at 95% of away games ( getting on a bit partly due to it / kids not being able see another ) I prefer to stand but i agree these days with being able to choose seats. If you are someone who really wants to stand buy tickets near the back. If you prefer to sit buy near the front. Does annoy me when you get 2 blokes standing right at the front when there are ppl with kids and older fans all around trying to sit down.

I am the same as many on here and started going when you had no choice but to stand just about all the time. Kids at the front and idiots at the back. I progressed from the front to the back :D

Excuse me! I was sat down at sheffield on Saturday. Im not a sixfielder and it wasnt my first and only away game thus season. Mate had his 5 year old lad with us who doesnt want to look at the back of someones legs all game.
Love to stand and sing but sometimes its not always feasable.

I fully understand your post but I must apologise for finding your username amusing.

Don't think I explained it very well cos yes it is about people for whom standing at matches is not ideal for whatever reasons eg bringing young kids, older fans, back problems etc. I have no idea what the rules and regs are but could tickets be sold on the basis that front row/s are definitely sitting? Could the scg do this? Seeing Astute's offer, could Nick create a lifts offered/wanted sticky?? Sorry it's just more questions but from other posts it seems I'm not alone in having heard of people who would like to go to away games but are put off by standing/transport so would be good to do something practical to help fellow fans

It's a very valid point.

My Dad is 83 and there is no way he can stand throughout a game. Consequently, he's had to give up going this season.

If something could be arranged that would be very helpful.

Well then I obviously wasn't referring to you? There have always been a section of people sitting down at away games, for the reasons you and others have pointed out: kids, older age, infirmity etc. I was pointing out the large number of folk sitting down at Sheffield in general, and most certainty wasn't pointing at you. Still, I hope you enjoyed your sense of indignity as you typed.

PUSBCCFC & a few others, people get older, backs, legs hurt after time standing up. Have a bit of thought. Standing isn't possible for everyone. Should they be excluded because of that?
My dad, who was 70 something at the time, was with us at Burnley some years ago, I think it was. This bloke was standing up in front of him, my dad asked him very politely if he wouldn't mind sitting down so we could all see. The bloke, eating a pie at the time, told me dad to feck off. My dad, all 6'5" of him just smashed him one and the gobby bloke ended a few rows down. Never been so proud of my dad, who is a very placid bloke normally. I don't condone violence but sometimes people are just plain ignorant and uncaring.

I understand there will always be those who for reasons have to sit down. At away games there has been a few rows of people sitting at the front.

I personally always stand at the back, yet often never manage to get tickets there.
The club don't always ask where you want to be positioned at away games.

Not as easy as that though. Peterborough was terrible and my son could hardly see the match as people in front of him were standing up.

Or as was the case on Saturday they told us to sit anywhere, which caused a bit of aggro. One bloke was chucked out just after kick off as he turned up and there was nowhere to sit. It didn't help that they'd block the first couple of rows off and not allowed anyone to sit there.

Does anyone have the email address for the scg because this really seems the type of issue they could perhaps look into.

Cant really see what they can do the mad hatters always go for the front row behind the goal when available I believe they always stand.
The rules state that you should be sitting however it is too hard to police so they never ask you to.
Also it causes friction between fans, I have been asked to sit down before I have no problem with that but to do so have to challenge other supporters to do so, so that I can see.

I'm normally a stander......but I found sitting down and staring at someones back for periods at Tranmere particularly helpful this season....

Just seems wrong that some people who would like to go to an away game don't because for whatever reason standing isn't ok for them (especially as has been posted if they won't go to NTFC on principle so away games are the only chance they have to see CCFC). I don't know rules and regs to be able to suggest a solution but just seems it needs a bit of commonsense not rocket science. scg seems the best/only (!) forum where it could be raised and no doubt someone better informed could suggest something as solution is probably pretty simple. Otherwise it means some City fans can't do away games and it doesn't seem right to say that

Only the club would be able to sort anything out. Can you imagine the conversation?

'Hello Mr SISU. We have thousands of supporters that won't go to Northampton. They need an area at away games where everyone sits down. Can you do something please' 'We certainly can. I will get it sorted within 3 weeks'

Asking for tickets would be fun. 'Three tickets please' 'Would you like a sitting seat or a standing seat?'

Thanks for posting this Michael, I've had real trouble attending away because of my back, if I stand still for more than about 35 minutes I'm in agony for hours. I've managed by kind of leaning on seat backs, but have had to sit down and miss the game for periods.

And "old blokes and people who feel like old blokes" section would be most welcome. Also this may sound stupid but as a previous home only fan I'm not sure what the deal is away with seats and ettiquette, I didn't even know you could just sit anywhere.

You might be better off dealing with the ground directly and ask them if they have disabled seating, especially in this division where you can only get standing tickets sometimes.

All grounds have their own systems. The best thing you can do is turn up early and get your choice of seat. Whatever their rules are if it isn't a sellout there should be spaces at the front. It isn't the best view after all.
