All the Aussies will have spent plenty of time in county cricket practising by then, that’s not the order of the tests is it as England should start at the real home of cricket to ensure a win before they go off to London

Schedule usually comes out later this year.

I’d have London 2 last as Aus have a good record at Lords, Edgbaston should always be first!

It’ll prob go
Edgbaston, Lords, OT, Headingley & Oval

Most tourists want to start at lords but I agree London should have the last two so we can go there three nil up I would be tempted to go early at headlingly so we can see smiths face when it’s hooping around early season before he gets on the roads in london

This is going to be an absolute massacre.

Aussies declare on 649-7. England now 15-2.

156 for S Marsh, 101 for M Marsh.

Luckily for us, we are only 288 runs behind.

65-3 now. Our last two real batsmen are in as Bairstow and Ali can be expected to contribute very little.
We'll be lucky to amass 250 I think.

Another reason not to have 4 day tests!

Shocking again, Khawaja and marsh x 2 queuing up to smash runs past us.

Really not sure where we go from here to be honest. Are we too loyal to the older players who haven’t turned up? Do we need to gut the squad?

Agree, it has to be 5 days although when you play a windies etc it’s no more than 4 days

Wow, how about this for a shocking stat:

This is the 5th time since 2016 that we have conceded 600 runs against us in an away test.

No it’s the 5th time I’m 15 away tests since 2016.

Was thinking they’ve been bad but not that bad surely!

Well I thought that stat looked really outrageously bad. I got that quote from the BBC site. Obviously an error on their part.

Unless my eyesight has gone completely wonky.

Even 5 times is awful.

I must have read it wrong. Just looked again now and it does say 5th.

I will edit my post so as to recover some sense of dignity.

Edited.

Backs out of the darkened room quietly.

Part of a plan. We’d already lost the series so they’re letting the marsh’s and kawaja get runs so they’ll come to England next time. We could have 4 day tests then if need be.

Top order collapsed, bottom order collapsed, and the middle-order wasn't very good either.
There really is no adjective to describe how poor we were. I'd have to invent a new word.

The positive side of it all though being that Australia expected to win 5-0, so this is a bit of a minor triumph for England.

I am making ticker tape as we very speak.

cancel the open top bus tour Otis..

I think we may have got a result in the 4th test should rain not have got in the way. we were outclassed from the start so fair play to Smith et al but really not sure where we go from here with the team. Stokes saga started the negative spiral from the start (but equally self inflicted). I would rather of us take him then deal with him afterwards which still hasn't been resolved.

I don't think we need revolution but we cannot get this right.

Very few sides win away from home and Australia will lose here, this has bee a poor you but I think the emphasis is on white ball cricket.

like ISSS stated earlier in the thread, Results are becoming polarised with home teams battering touring teams on a more regular basis. Everyone is getting better and better in their own conditions. The only exceptions are the Asian teams and England-S/A- New Zealand where conditions on the countries are similar to a degree and series a bit closer.
For England, there aren't enough fast, hard and bouncy wickets available for us to get near to playing at a decent level in Australian conditions. Also tours are not set up to help visiting teams acclimatise now. There are very few 4 day warm up games like they used to have.

Most of the touring games are against weak teams

doesn't help that the schedule for 4 day cricket in the domestic season sees the bulk of games scheduled for beginning & end of season when conditions favour swing over pace. Fast bowlers andd spinners aren't seeing enough cricket on wickets that may closer resemble overseas wickets.
Doesn't help that selectors have made a dog's breakfast over last 18 months of developing a side.
Also basically sent the same type of side that has been well-beaten last tour down under.
key issue this obsession with batsmen who can score quickly. Hit or bust. It's a 5 day game still what's wrong with playing batsmen that can show patience and build an innings.?

I think it goes back to an earlier point on test cricket not lasting 5 days and the public seem to be favouring ODI and T20 cricket. We only have Cook who can dig in for the day and I must admit watching him bat for the day isn’t fun as sadly too infrequent now. I heard today that he averaged under 50 even with his double century!

This is the problem. Tests are becoming a joke where home teams always win.

Cricket needs to have a serious think. It’s obsession with ODI games means teams get no prep time and even the games they are played opponents can’t be bothered to field competitive opposition.

England bowlers can’t compete on these surfaces and other than Hazelwood the Aussies would look bang average in the UK

There are problems for sure

England batsmen failed to convert 50’s into centuries anywhere near enough but at least Malan looks a test player.

The selection of a non specialist spinner you could pick was bizarre

Root is a disaster as captain - down there with Botham and Boycott.

The bowlers can’t perform on non swing wickets

Vince is finished as a test player and probably shouldn’t have gone anyway.

Install Hameed as opener, drop Stoneman to 3.
Vince out forever.
Moeen out forever.
Need a real spinner.
Need a real fast bowler.
Root never captains again.

Ali is one of the top ranked test players at home. Beyond stupid to exile him off one bad series - it won’t happen.

find a way to stop this Kolpak/overseas players nonsense.
You're rarely getting top-quality overseas players so the argument about competing against the best doesn't hold anymore.
County sides with 5/6/7 non-English players producing mediocre cricket just strangles young England-qualified players development.
Going the same way as football. Still refuse to believe there can't be sufficient good English players to take the place of a decent % of those in the Championship/bottom end of the PL.

Those wanting spinners. Pitches, match scheduling, 4 day games all reducing opportunities for spinners.
How many 4 day games did Crane actually play last summer? started only 7.
Can rule out the 5 or so games of a 14 game season because they are being played on green seamers.

I see that broad the undropabble survives for New Zealand and the very average Liam Livingstone has been called up, I do hope Sam hain can find some red ball form this summer as he is far better than livingstone

What an ODI this is! Never thought we would have a chance with 300+ on the board but what an incredible knock by Roy! We have settled down run rate up just picking up singles which is frustrating the Aussies to fuck!

And cleared for selection by England. All seems a bit odd. Can't play when he hasn't been charged, gets charged and is allowed back in!

If I was Ben Duckett I'd be seething. Not only was he sent home but he's left out of the Feb Windies Lions tour. Whereas Stokes is brought straight back in. Talk about making someone a scapegoat!
